The Alresford Pigs will be assisting at the Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink with car parking, cycle jumble management and covert security (difficult to imagine any of them being covert in a pub!).

They will also be running a stall which takes donations on the day for them to sell. If you have stuff but can’t make it on the day, please contact them. They may be able to help.

More sellers and auction bikes have booked themselves a place today.

The Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink auction page has been reworked to get the primary images to pop up in lightboxes. With galleries in the Replies for all the supplementary images which open new tabs (they should open lightboxes too but the WordPress plugins are not cooperating).

Next job is to produce a downloadable catalogue single images, short descriptions, lot numbers and valuations.

How much is a Halfords tricycle, one of the first bikes they built, worth? And the other two tricyles from Rudge & Whitworth and Claud Butler. Museum pieces or rideable bikes?

The Brompton Bicycle is easy to value but will there be competitive bids from Winchester/Petersfield to London commuters?

Is the market down or is it up?

Are some of these bikes rare and valuable or rare but no one is bothered?

Can you get a bargain modern bike to take to University? Or will your parents or grandparents get one for you?

There is only one proper way to find out, turn up on the 26th September at the Flower Pots, Cheriton. Have a look. Get a bidder’s number and lift it up for the lot(s) of your desire.

If you can’t be there, you can leave a commission bid or book a phone bid. Remember all bikes must be collected by 6pm. The form is on the auction web page. A packing and delivery service will be available at your cost.

The general population seems averse to carrying an ID card or not being able to use cash for legal or illegal or tax avoidance purposes. Why would it make sense to charge cyclists VED?

It would just be another burden on our administration, cost everyone because it would requiring financing from the treasury to set up and maintain, it would discourage people from cycling and impact on the health of the population and further burden the NHS.

If you want to spend treasury money on cycling, go after the e-motorbikes being ridden illegally on our roads and pavements, charge cyclists that are not meeting the basic legal requirements: compliant and functional brakes, tyres beyond their useful life, no lights at night. This would make it safer for everybody using existing legslation and cost little in comparison to a VED system for bikes.

Asking cyclists to pay a couple of quid a year to ride a bike on public roads which they do not damage and which reduces their chance of spending or at least delaying NHS money makes no sense. Even the moped and e-motorbike rate of £27 would be over the top.

We see the cry all the time "cyclists should pay road tax" of course we know that "road tax doesnt exist, its vehicle tax which bicycles and legal e-bikes are exempt from...

but what if bicycles were treated the same as motorbikes how much VED would they pay?

Technically, they fall into the sub 150cc band so at worst would pay £27 a year

However, if we use a line of best fit to get us to 0cc it would be a whole £1.96

Either way its stupid and pointless and totally unenforceable. Would a kids bike pay it? I suspect the admit cost for the sub 150cc class of motorbike is more than the £27 a year they pay.

I spent about £300 on bits for my bike last year, various upgrades, breakages etc that comes to £60 in VAT.

Don’t forget to visit the The Flower Pots Inn & Brewery this weekend it’s their annual b**r festival.

You will be able to see inside the new brewery.

We won’t have as many b**rs or bands at Hampshire Cycle Jamboree - Sell, Buy, Chat, Ride, Eat and Drink but the bar opens at 10am.

Here’s are some of the final photos of the two 1902ish tricycles Halfords and Rudge Whitworth, a 1930s Claud Butler trikes, two early Dawes Galaxies and a Claud Butler. All 19.5.-20.5” frames except one trike which 22.5”.
