More sad news

We are deeply disappointed to say the 2020 Soapbox Derby has been cancelled.

Like many thousands of events across the world COVID-19 has caused us to hit the buffers.

We will be back in 2021, bigger, better but as crazy as ever.

Thank you to the teams, spectators and the local community that have shown us your support.

The teams lucky enough to have gone home with a trophy in 2019, can we ask that when it is safe to do so, you return the trophies to A& E Nicholls in Fishguard or contact us to arrange a safe transfer.

From all of us here in the Soapbox Derby team we wish you, your family and your loved ones the best of health.

See you in 2021

17/03/2020

At this time it would be reckless to put on an event at the predicted peak of the virus outbreak even if large gatherings are not banned, so with a heavy heart, we have decided to postpone until later in the year once things return to some sort of normality.

One of the most common comments on last this years feed back was the event needed commentary and and some banter between runs, well we promised to make next year better and to that end we are glad to announce Andrew "Tommo" Thomas offa the Radio will be joining us for Commentary and bants. We are sure this will help take us to the next level and make an already fun event extra special.

Will they get to defend their crown in 2020 ?

THEY DID THE DOUBLE! 🎉

New Quay based team, FCB won the Ceredigion Soapbox Derby New Quay, then they went on to win the Fishguard Soapbox Derby!

We're lucky enough to have the 1st place trophy in store!

[08/14/19]   Evening folks, as we said we would we have taken time out to stage the music festival at the start of August now that is out the way we are turning our thoughts to the potential of the 2nd Ceredigion soapbox Derby New Quay. We have to be very honest and say last year caught us off guard we thought we may get 1500-2000 spectators and we estimate over 5000 turned up plus until we got stuck into it we didn't realise how much work it was for basically 2 ppl to organise anyway enuff of the waffle on to 2020.
We very much want the event to become annual and we are pretty sure there is strong support in town so what we would like to do is have an open meeting Sunday 1st September at 19:00 in the hotel Penwig when we would like to confirm the desire to hold the event is there, that we can get a strong group together to help run the event, that we can fiance it and also set a date.
If you can please come along if you can't make it but have strong feelings either way please email your thoughts to [email protected]. Thankyou Kayleigh & Ian.

[08/12/19]   2020, Bigger Better Harder faster ?

27/07/2019

New Quay based team FCB make it entered 2 won 2 taking the 1st place at Fishgaurd

In the interest of transparency.

[05/22/19]   Anyone that helped out with marshalling we are 14 yellow and 2 orange Hi Vis missing and have gained a black light weight wind proof jacket if any one can help trace them.

[05/19/19]   so the beans have been counted and we are happy to announce that the 1st Ceredigion Soapbox Derby New Quay was a complete success achieving all our goals,
1 Raising Money for the New Quay Memorial Hall
2 Raising awareness of the Ceredigion Life Boat campaign.
3. Boosting tourism
4 giving the local community a chance to come together for a good day out.

1 although support from businesses as a whole was again disappointing the same ppl as always got behind our efforts and helped us raise £910.00 for the hall, this could have and should have been more but the event cost £4674.16 to stage which was slightly over the 3.5-4K we had originally budgeted
2. We have been informed we added 256 signatures to the CLC petition which normally averages 50 per month,
3 We believe we brought somewhere in the region of 5000 people in to New Quay on what would have been a pretty ordinary day if there was no Soapbox, and we have received many messages from New Quay 1st timers saying how much they liked the town and will be returning with their familys when it is a little quieter.
4 We have had literally hundreds of messages and personal thanx from people that had an awesome day and overall we did a good job.

We would like to thank everybody that gave up their time to help make the event possible without you it couldn't have happened. Everyone that sponsored, donated or gave their services you are all heroes and should be feeling very proud
At this time we don't know if this was a 1 off we really hope not but if it was then at least it was a good one.

gofundme.com There will be no charge for watching the soapbox racing in New Quay but the event is very expensive to stage current estimation is £4700 we have been very honoured to receive sponsorship and a donation from the Town council but we still see there being a shortfall, we will of course be rattling b.....

This

Some people have asked why No.63? The answer is the 63 mile gap between all-weather lifeboat stations after the RNLI downgrade New Quay lifeboat in 2020. That means it will take 90 minutes for a lifeboat to arrive when the weather is bad.

Thank you to the organisers of the Ceredigion Soapbox Derby New Quay for supporting the #CeredigionLifeboatCampaign.

Under the RNLI’s current plans, Ceredigion will have #NoLifeboatInAStorm after 2020. Please sign and share our petition to save the only all-weather lifeboat in Ceredigion: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/p/CeredigionLifeboatCampaign

[05/07/19]   If we achieved nothing else on Sunday this would still make it a success in our eyes, Received :This is the reply from Jane who coordinates the petitions.for Ceredigion Lifeboat Campaign

We know that the crowds were focused on the Derby, and there were short intervals for us to canvass, having said that, I'd say it was a good result. 156 on our sheets, plus the outlets I would guess another 60. Plus 52 online, which is well above the norm, we usually average 50 per month online. The responses I received showed positive support for the campaign
