Today I fished my first ever Angling Trust Ladies National hosted at Westwood lakes.
I was the youngest angler taking part today being only just 15, as you are meant to be 16 minimum to fish it but because I’ve been on the England Talent pathways I got special permission to fish it

The match was over Falcon and Osprey lakes.
I drew peg 6 on Osprey which was not the area I wanted really as I got told you needed to be in the middle of the bank but there were still plenty of fish to be caught from my peg!

I got some info this week and was going to set my plan to fish pellets mainly. In both my edges and short in front of my nets.

I started the match down my left edge using a small quick release pot to feed micros and started on a 4mm expander on the hook.
The bites almost began instantly with fish swirling everywhere. I caught a couple until the foul hooking began and decided to rest that line while going over to my short right edge feeding the same micros and a 4mm expander. Again the swirls began and I caught a couple but faster this time so I sat on this line for a good 40 minutes until the bites dried up. I then decided to try my short pellet line which was a lot trickier and harder to get bites so I quickly refed and moved of this line. I then decided to switch to feeding groundbait in the edges instead of micros and i changed from an expander to a worm head on the hook. This was better for a bit.
I’ve rotated both my edges and short hard pellet line to weigh 43kg 250g (95lb 5oz) which saw me come 4th on my lake and 10th in the whole match!! I also beat my PB match weight today so I was buzzing!!

We also won Silver medal in the team event with my Nytro Ladies team which was me, Emma, Abbey and Sharon!! ❤️❤️❤️

Well done to Sam for winning the match and well done to our own Emma Pickering who came 3rd

Bait today was fishery pellets, Dynamite Swimstim Milled Expander and Dynamite Swimstim Amino expanders in both 4mm and 6mm

This weekend just gone was National Weekend!

The Angling Trust Cadet, Junior and Youth National. The Cadets and Juniors on the Saturday and Youth on the Sunday.
My weekend started on the Friday when the team headed to Makins for a practice day to try to figure out what could be right for the day and practice mugging techniques which I haven’t done a lot of.
It was a day for me where I practiced the pellet waggler, mugging and also shallow for carp in case I drew on phase 1 as it’s not the fishing I’m used to. We didn’t fish for too long that day. We packed up early as the heat was horrendous but I ended up with a few carp going 20lb and a couple decent roach. I also lost a few carp 🙄
We went back to the lodge where we got given our Dynamite Baits stuff and our new team t-shirt!
I’m absolutely buzzing Dynamite sponsor our team now ❤️
I think they are the best bait company out there by a mile! The products are excellent quality all round and I’m so excited for them to be involved with our team! 🎣🎣❤️

Onto Saturday

I was told the night before I was team captain this year. I was buzzing but really nervous too!
I was number 9 to draw and gave my team an ok draw with myself being on reptile 14.
If i could have placed the anglers on the lakes before the draw i would have put the 3 who drew on the big lakes on there and us other 3 on the smaller phase 2 lakes.
The only problem on the small lakes was the tight pe***ng. 22 anglers on the lake meant nearly every peg was in!
I had an island 13m across from me which gave me some hope and there were fish against it.
I set up a 13m line against the island feeding pellets
2 top 2 +2 lines one feeding castors and one feeding pellets and an edge rig feeding Dynamite Betaine Green Swim Stim with a bunch dead reds on the hook.
I started the match by going long into the little hole in the reeds at the island feeding pellets through a medium cad pot and a 8mm pellet on the hook. I had a 6 pound carp literally on the drop which made me think it would be solid!
I knew it was going to have to be a real patient match but couldn’t believe i caught one in about 10 seconds!
I went back out and sat on this line but had no more bites after the first hour.
I then went short on pellets to try and hook a few carp early on in the match but they just didn’t want it. I decided to go back long but feed micros instead but this didn’t make a difference and I still didn’t have a bite. With it being a team match I decided to big pot castors short and fish for everything that swims so I would still be putting fish in my net. This line began to kick off with me catching a skimmer around 2lb. I then jumped straight back on it and had another one averaging the same weight. I stayed on this line until I died out and went back long making sure I was still chucking pellets short to try and bring them into the noise. After 30 minutes long and wrecking my rig by getting stuck in the bush I tried again short on pellets but still had no signs. I went back short on castors until 1 1/2 hours to go when I then big potted my edge and waited 10 minutes. While waiting I went back on the castors short line and caught another carp and the fed my edge again. I then went down my edge with a bunch of dead reds on.
I sat patiently on it and did catch a decent carp. I big potted again, went on my short line to see if I could catch anymore silvers off it and had a cracking ide around 3lb. For the last half a hour I sat down my edge and hoped to put another carp in my net. Last 10 minutes I finally hooked into one more carp. I ended the match with 12kilo and 5 section points. All the weights in my section came from the wider part of the lake to my right.
The lake up our end fished incredibly hard and I had to change many things to try and just put some fish in the net! I even got upset and frustrated with myself as I really didn’t want to let the team down! Especially as the captain. I tried so hard i did let the pressure get to me a bit! 🙄
At the end my Dynamite Baits Future Networks ended up with a bronze medal coming 3rd out of 22 teams which is amazing. We also had the individual champion Jenson who has qualified for Fisho at just 15!

Sunday was the turn of the youths and as we had stayed for the weekend the plan was to run the bank for the 3 teams we had in!
We even got roped into doing some stewarding!! 🤣🤣

Well done to our Green team for winning gold and to Alex for taking the match out individually as champion!

Finally a massive thank you to Elliot and Clint for letting me be part of this team. You don’t understand how much it means to me ❤️ Thank you for everything you do for us! 🎣🎣🎣

Thank you to Nytro and Dynamite for supporting me in my fishing ❤️🎣🎣
