Over Christmas I realised I was becoming overwhelmed with all the different celebrancy roles I play and that this was getting in the way of what I really want to do, which is be the best celebrant I can be, period. So with the help of Humanists UK I've stepped back from being a celebrant trainer and a local organiser. Last Sunday I finished my last wedding training weekend and our lovely cohort of humanist wedding celebrant trainees made me this video.
I've loved being a trainer and I've learnt so much from the people I've been meant to be training and our current cohort is no exception. Thank you all for your kindness and generosity.

One of the things I love about being a celebrant is visiting venues for the first time and yesterday I had my first trip to Langar Hall set in its own beautiful grounds just 12 miles outside Nottingham. I spent a fascinating hour meeting the groom’s family and being shown round the interior, which feels like a cross between a much-loved family home and a bohemian Soho club. Can’t wait to go back there at the end of April.

It was such a joy to meet with Marco and Giulia at their home in London at the weekend to plan their English-Italian wedding ceremony at the beautiful Tudor Barn in Eltham. They are both from Italy and both work in hospitality so an excellent lunch was of course on the agenda! I really love working on bi-lingual ceremonies because they provide a rare opportunity to get guests together from different cultures and with different languages and give them an experience they can all share and understand.

Most of my time as a celebrant doesn’t feel like work and that was definitely the case yesterday when I motorcycled into the Peak District on a sunny afternoon to see Alice and Max for a ceremony planning meeting. It was lovely to meet them, Lin, Winnie and Ezra. We talked of many things and I discovered just how good a chocolate chip cookie can taste with the addition of Maldon smoked sea salt!
