Badminton is today (Monday 14th January). Every Monday from 6pm to 7pm during the winter months we'll be playing badminton at the Newcastle Emyln leisure centre. If we all chip in £2 or £3 each week, that will pay for the courts. Rackets will be provided.

Hope you had a good start to 2019. If fitness and fun were two of your New Year Resolutions, then you're in luck. You get fitness and fun in scrumptious abundance when you pick up a badminton racket and chase a large featured object around for an hour.

I just watched a documentary on the BBC called "The Truth Of Getting Fit", and the scientific results are in. Impact sports like running, badminton, and tennis (where you take impacts on your joints) is the best exercise for increasing bone strength, which reduces the risk of osteoporosis. And least we not forget the main benefit of badminton which is "laughter", provided mainly by our comedic star cadets, Lesley and Martin. Laughter works the abs and releases happy endorphin...the body’s natural painkillers (hmmm, I wonder if the people reading this spotted my subtle plug to get them back into badminton in the New Year?).

If I don't see you at badminton today, I hope you have a lovely bone-strengthening, laughter-filled Christmas, and a fab start to the New Year. And I'm looking forward to seeing you again on JANUARY 7 2019.

In fact, I think we're all beginners, so I should say advanced players are very welcome :-)

Tennis is today (Monday 1st October from 6:00pm to 7:15pm) at the Newcastle Emlyn tennis courts. It's free. No need to book a place. Just arrive. Weather forecast is 11 degrees, cloudy with only a 7% chance of rain. We have plenty of balls. Just bring your wondrous self and a racket. Beginners are very welcome. We have two spare rackets (in case you don't have one). And if you want to come to the "Guerrilla Gardening", that's from 5:30pm to 6:00pm (meet outside the courts).
