When Box Clever Events was first set up in the summer of 2015, the aim was simple - to raise £1,000 for the Children’s Ward at Newcastle RVI.

We went on to raise more than £10,000 for them and, almost 12 years later, we’re still proud to support them every year.

Along the way, we decided to open things up and let each of our participants choose a charity close to their hearts, and that decision has grown into something far bigger than we could ever have imagined.

Since then, we’ve supported more than 300 different charities, including Hebburn Helps, Cancer Connections and Macmillan Cancer Support, and together we’ve now raised a whopping £368,339. ❤️

And this Friday, we’re hoping to smash through the £370,000 mark.

That’s down to every single person who likes and follows this page, sponsors one of our boxers, buys a ticket, gets involved in one of our mad challenges, donates, shares our posts or simply turns up and supports what we do.

Not bad for an organisation that originally set out to raise a grand.

From £1,000 to almost £400,000.

Lads we’re back in action on Saturday against Wallsend Seville.

The games started with the wind howling and we started well creating some good chances before falling behind to a well taking Wallsend goal, after the first goal went in the lads stopped doing what they do so well and allowed Wallsend to score through a succession of errors and ultimately we found ourselves a few goals down due to some excellent football from Wallsend and some errors from our lads. Credit to them all as they didn’t allow their heads to drop and came out fighting Theo A getting our first of the game before quickly following up with another to reduce the deficit before Noah G then scored an excellent FK from distance sticking it into the top corner and give us some real hope of getting something out of the game.

We pushed forward looking for more goals to get us back into the game but unfortunately conceded another. Cody then scored a really well taking goal to give us further hope but unfortunately we conceded again to make the make it and uphill. A closer encounter than the scoreline suggested and if we eliminate some of the mistakes we made today we’ll be absolutely fine.

Back in action Saturday at 10:00 against Bedlington.

Lads are back in action tomorrow morning 10:00 at Cochrane Park, full squad available and hopefully we can kick on from last weeks win.

First of all apologies for the lack of updates it’s been a hectic period but we were finally back in action this morning against Wallsend at Cochrane Park.

Nice 10am fixture this morning which suits the lads because it means that they’re awake but haven’t been waiting around for their game.

Hunter was still away on Holiday but that was the only absence so we had the rest of the contingent available.

The game started well for Monty and we were passing the ball and playing some lovely stuff, we managed to get a couple of early goals to settle us down and continued playing well in the first ten minutes. We went a few goals further in front and towards the end of the first half we started hanging onto the ball longer than we probably needed to and stopped passing to each other. Despite a comfortable first half both coaches reminded the lads about moving the ball and listening to each other.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first with the lads getting on the front foot and moving the ball with precision and class.

All 6 lads available today ended up on the scoresheet and in the end ran out comfortable winners. Good luck to Wallsend for the rest of the season, tried to play football the right way.

MOTM goes to all 6 lads who didn’t put a foot wrong all day.

The lads were in action on Sunday playing in our home competition The Monty Summer cup at Blakelaw.

We fell at the semi final stages last time out which has been a little bit of a theme lately so we’re hoping to put it right and go further in this one.

First up we were up against a very good South Tyneside rockets team and although we created plenty of chances we were dealt a killer blow and lost a close game 1-0. It’s not unusual for us to be slow starters and it’s something that we’re working on.

In the second game we were up against Blyth Spartans and knew we had to bounce back quickly following our first game loss. We started the game in similar fashion creating plenty of chances but finding ourselves unable to break the deadlock. We finally got our noses in front and ran out 4-0 winners with some excellent goals scored. Credit to Blyth who were excellent throughout with the scoreline flattering us but that’s the nature of tournament football and the first goal being so important.

Next up we were up against Monty Blues who are a relatively new team from our club, we played them a few weeks back and you can already see the strides and progress they’re making under two excellent coaches. We managed to score a couple of well taken goals and again ran out 4-0 winners in a good competitive game.

With two wins from three in the group stage and with one game to play we knew that we had all but qualified for the knockout stages for the main trophy.

Our final game saw us up against another team who we hadn’t played before Hetton Inter. The game started well for Monty with us on the front foot and trying to play some good stuff. Their was some excellent link up play and some brilliant goals with the lads running out 3-0 winners and confirming our place in the semi final of the main comp alongside West Denton, City Juniors and South Tyneside who we’d lost to in our first game.

We would be up against a familiar opponent in West Denton who beat us in the semi final of the last Monty Tournament 3-2.

We know how difficult of a team West Denton are to play against and knew we’d have to be at our best to have a chance. This was arguably our best performance of the day and our best performance in a good while. Every one of our lads putting in an unbelievable shift before us finally running out 2-0 winners and securing our place in the final where we’d be playing either City Juniors or South Tyneside.

We found out that we were going to have the opportunity to avenge our first game loss to South Tyneside Tornados.

The lads were advised to go out there and try and replicate what they had done in the semi final and hopefully take our opportunities this time, we knew that South Tyneside were a good team with a quality goalkeeper so hitting the corners would be really important.

We started the game on the front foot and created some really good chances before finally getting our noses in front. South Tyneside came back into it and had a really good chance to equalise at 1-0 but fortunately for us they couldn’t take that chance. We managed to get further ahead and at 2-0 we managed the game really well ensuring the win and the trophy. All the lads were superb 🔴🔵

Lads were in action yesterday playing in Newcastle City Juniors open competition.

We were drawn against Wynyard, Washington Pumas and Newcastle City Juniors Milan.

We knew we’d have to be at our very best to compete against some of the top teams around and as always in tournament football it’s important to get points on the board as early as possible.

In the first game we came up against Washington who like ourselves wanted to get the ball on the floor and knock it about. We quickly got a noses in front with an excellent worked goal and from there we started to control the game before eventually running out 3-0 winners.

In the second game we were up against an excellent City Juniors team and we knew we’d have to be at our very best to compete in this one. The game started in familiar fashion with both teams trying to get on the ball and make things happen, again we managed to get our noses in front and take a 1-0 lead. The game continued to ebb and flow with both team having some good chances and both keepers making some excellent saves. As the game pressed on City juniors tried tried to get themselves level but it was Monty who scored again to take a 2-0 lead.
We then made a common mistake in football by switching off and allowing City to score almost immediately to get back into the game. The game continued to flow but fortunately we managed to get our third and wrap the game up 3-1.

In the third game we came up against Wynyard and flew out of the blocks playing some excellent football and pressing at every opportunity. The relentless nature of or press forced an early mistake and we managed to get our noses in front, from then it was pretty much one way traffic and we eventually ran out 4-1 winners.

With 💯 record we’d progressed to the main semi final along with City Juniors, Benfield and Wallsend. We’d be up against a very good Benfield team in the semi finals after a short break.

The semi final started in similar fashion with both teams trying to get the ball down and play football. The game was played at a frantic pace with both teams having some excellent opportunities to score. The first goal of the game was eventually scored by Benfield, we switched off for a moment and it cost us with them scoring the decisive goal, we pushed and pushed for an equaliser and done everything but score. Full credit to Benfield who managed the game well and went on to win the tournament overall.

Although there was some upset lads it was good to brush shoulders with some of the top teams around and we come out with nothing but credit. We continue to develop and the improvements in the last 12 months can’t be understated.

Player of the tournament for all 6 of the lads available yesterday, they were all superb. Special mention to Ollie A who continues to lead and keep the lads going with his positivity and willingness to help out wherever we need him.

We’ll go again soon and hopefully go a step or two further.

Negotiations for Hunter Allen are still ongoing, it’s difficult to get things over the line when there’s agents getting involved 😂.
