Bollywood Dance Newcastle
A fun weekly class currently taking place at Dance City (Newcastle) for children and adults
Kala Chashma!
Today marks the launch of our Big Give Arts for Impact Week campaign, and I’m very proud to share the work we at City are doing to support children growing up in the West End of Newcastle. From 17–24 March, we aim to raise £3,150, which will be doubled to £6,300 and every pound will go directly towards our Dance Into Learning programme for nursery and reception-aged children.
With 43% of children in the area living in poverty, the need is clear. Teachers tell us that many children are starting school with delays in language, communication and social development — challenges intensified by the impact of pandemic isolation.
Through Dance Into Learning, we want to give children in the West End the same joyful start to school that every child deserves. Our aim is simple: to support their communication, confidence and social development through creative movement and play. By bringing specialist early years dance sessions directly into nurseries and reception classes, we’re helping children build the skills they need to thrive through listening, teamwork, physical coordination and emotional regulation.
We’re also working closely with teachers and families so that the benefits reach beyond the classroom. Sharing events bring parents and carers into the experience, where children can share their achievements and enjoy shared learning, play, and connection at home. And by collaborating with school staff, we’re embedding dance as a long‑term, sustainable part of early years education in the West End.
Our campaign video shares a glimpse of this work we’ve been doing in St John’s Primary School in Benwell, and I hope you will take a moment to watch it. It captures the spirit of Dance Into Learning beautifully.
If you’re able to support the campaign, your donation — big or small — will go twice as far this week. Your generosity will help us deliver weekly early years dance sessions, provide healthy snacks, offer free performance tickets, run family sharings, and supply the resources that make these sessions so engaging for children at such a formative stage of their development.
Donate between 17–24 March through The Big Give website: donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS00000A4QMMYA3
Thank you, as always, for supporting us. Your support will help us give children the best possible start to their learning journey — and it means a great deal to all of us here at Dance City.
