Murton Equestrian Centre is a fully licensed, BHS approved, family run riding school in Tyne & Wear, owned by Derek & Leigh Belbin. Established in 1976, we pride ourselves in offering quality riding lessons in a safe and relaxed environment, for adults and children over 4 years. Situated a short drive from Whitley Bay and Newcastle Upon Tyne, we have ample parking and are perfectly placed for local transport links. We have a wide range of well-schooled horses and ponies to ride for all ages and standards. We have a large indoor and outdoor arena, which allows us to offer all year round riding. Plus an on site rider wear and tack shop for all your riding needs! As well as offering riding lessons, we are also one of the only riding schools in Tyne & Wear where pupils can also follow a comprehensive examination system with the Pony Club or with BHS Progressive Riding Tests/Challenge Awards. We also offer Unaffiliated Dressage and Showjumping competitions, perfect for first timers. The indoor and outdoor arenas are available to hire for horses and dog walking. They are all fully trained to offer riding instruction at all levels, including BHS Stages Training and Road Safety Training. We are licensed by North Tyneside Council. License number: 1600295AW. Whether you're looking to improve your skills, prepare for competitions, or simply learn something new, this clinic is a great opportunity to develop your confidence and knowledge.

✂️ Clipping– learn the basics of safe and effective clipping
🎀 Plaiting – practice different plaiting techniques and get your horse looking competition-ready
🌀 Lungeing – learn how to correctly and safely lunge a horse, including equipment, positioning and effective communication

This summer, Evelyn has completed her BHS Stage 3 Ride, Care & Lunge— a fantastic achievement that takes a huge amount of hard work, dedication and commitment! 👏

And most recently, Evelyn has also achieved her BHS Coaching4All, which is a Stage 3 Level qualification too! 🌟

We are incredibly proud of everything Evelyn has achieved and the progress she has made. It’s been fantastic to watch her develop her riding, horse care and coaching skills throughout her time with us. 💙

What will I do in my lesson❓

Lead Rein Group Lesson - 4yrs plus

📅 Every Wednesday 4.30pm,Thursday 4.00pm, Saturday 10am, 10.30am 1pm (14yrs plus) and 1.30pm. Sunday 10am, 10.30am and 2pm.

🏇At this level all riders have a leader (parents are encouraged) to assist them. Instruction will be given on mounting whether receiving a leg up or using a mounting block, and dismounting. Riders will be shown how to hold and alter the length of their reins. They will learn the basics on the position of the rider and how to use basic aids to control their horses. Riders will be able to stop and steer their horses through basic school exercises e.g. riding circles and changes of reins.

🏇Moving onto the trot riders will establish balance and rhythm in both sitting and rising trot. We include games and exercises that make learning to ride fun as well as improving posture, balance, suppleness and confidence. As well as the riding, riders will begin to learn simple equestrian terms including parts of the bridle and saddle and colours of horses.

🏇Once the rider can steer independently in walk and trot and have a basic understanding of school movements the instructor will assess them and move them up to the Walk/Trot Group Lesson...
