"Always be humble, always be understanding and always be kind. The brightest smiles can hide a thousand wounds and people can be fighting inner battles you know absolutely nothing about." - Victoria Wright, Founder and Chair of Riders Minds.

On saturday 9th August weโ€™re asking all equestrians to come together from all walks of life and Ask Care. Talk (A.C.T.) on that day.
Start a conversation on a yard, smile at someone you wouldnโ€™t normally talk to, wear something purple, and for once let us all be united by the same passion. We all have the power to be that leg up that somebody might desperately need.

โ˜€๏ธ It's getting hot!

We're loving the summer weather, but remember to make sure horses everywhere are kept cool, comfortable and safe...

๐Ÿ’ง Water โ€“ Make sure fresh, clean water is always available. Check troughs and top up buckets regularly.

๐ŸŒณ Shade and shelter โ€“ Horses need access to shade, whether natural or man-made, when turned out.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Ventilation โ€“ Improve airflow in stables.

๐Ÿงด Sunburn โ€“ Protect pink skin with horse-specific sun cream or UV-protective fly masks.

๐Ÿชฐ Flies and midges โ€“ Use repellents correctly, keep stables clean and consider fly rugs and masks if required.

๐Ÿ‡ Exercise โ€“ Avoid the hottest times of day (10amโ€“4pm) and cool your horse down thoroughly after work.

๐Ÿš› Travel โ€“ Travel early, keep trips short and ensure plenty of ventilation and hydration.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week ๐Ÿง

๐Ÿ”„ Mental health is complex and includes a wide range of conditions, many of which are poorly understood and attract stigma. One of the most common misconceptions is that mental health is binary, with people being either 'healthy' or 'ill'. Instead, it exists on an ever-changing continuum โ€“ someone with a diagnosed condition can demonstrate positive wellbeing and, indeed, be considered to be thriving. Likewise, there are times when someone without any diagnosis may find themselves to be struggling or in crisis.

โค๏ธ There are numerous factors that can impact where we sit on the continuum at any given time, including life experiences, social support and individual coping mechanisms.

๐Ÿค Everyone experiences a range of mental wellbeing states over the course of their lifetime, from thriving to struggling or even into crisis, and knowing where you are in the spectrum can help you to identify times when you might need extra support.

If you are struggling or in crisis, there are a number of organisations you can reach out to, including...

โžก๏ธ Your GP or the NHS 111 phone line out of hours
โžก๏ธ Your local NHS urgent mental health helpline
โžก๏ธ The Riders Minds free support line on 0800 088 2073
โžก๏ธ The Samaritans free helpline on 116 123
โžก๏ธ 999 or your local A&E department
