Yesterday, Katherine, Louisa and our Changing Lives Through Horses students had a wonderful opportunity to visit the Northumbria Police horses.
Moments like this gently open doors, helping young people begin to imagine what their futures could look like—especially when they already share a love for horses!
Seeing the care, teamwork, and different pathways involved offered a glimpse into how that passion can grow.
Thank you to Northumbria Police for welcoming us and helping our students see new possibilities ahead.

🌞 keeping cool in the hot weather 🌞
The forecast is looking great for those who like it hot! To make sure that horses, riders and volunteers stay hydrated and healthy we’re putting some plans in place.
For the horses we’ll provide regular cool showers, water buffets to encourage hydration and ice pops in flavours they love!
For humans we have plenty of cold drinks too. Our YETI cooler will be out for everyone to help themselves to juice. Please also bring a water bottle with you when you come. Long pants are still needed for riding (it can be very painful to ride in shorts). Please avoid vest tops too.
We’ll adjust lesson content accordingly. If it gets too hot to ride safely, we’ll offer alternative learning opportunities such as horse agility to stable management lessons.
If you’re coming for volunteering or Alternative Provision don’t forget to put sun screen on!
Come for a walk with Phil, Freckles and some terrifying sheep as we chat about our Changing Lives Through Horses outcomes and the next academic year. If you have any questions about our alternative provision please feel free to drop an email to [email protected]

Yesterday the team came together for training led by Paula.
Regular development sessions for coaches help us to build consistent approaches across the team. It creates an opportunity to discuss ways we can best support both horses and riders to create the best possible experience for both.
We took the opportunity to assess and settle in new arrivals Frank and Daniel. We worked on asking them to stop and go from the lightest possible aid. The more consistent we are with how we apply the aids, the more predictable ridden work becomes for the horses. This has a positive impact on their mental state.
