Results didn’t go our way this weekend, but our Northumberland Women still produced moments to be proud of against Norfolk.
A brilliant half-century from Emily Whiting led the way in the first game, supported by valuable runs from Maiya Charlesworth and Scarlett French. With the ball, Maiya, Emily and Jenny McDowell all picked up wickets.
In the second game, Olivia Miller impressed with 2–30, while Scarlett added another strong contribution with the bat.
Our Women’s Super League starts next week so stay tuned for more on that! ⭐️🔥🌅

Volunteer’s Week Spotlight: Louise Peacock ⭐
Volunteers like Louise are helping ensure women and girls can enjoy a game that wasn’t always available to previous generations.
Louise’s cricket journey proves you don’t need a lifelong connection to the game to make an impact.
A mum working in recruitment, Louise first became involved in cricket when her son joined Bates Cottages All Stars aged five. Seven years later, she has become a driving force behind the club’s junior and women’s programmes.
After becoming an All Stars and Dynamos Activator, delivering sessions for children aged 5-11, Louise spotted an opportunity to create something new.
Having never played formal cricket herself, she attended a social “Prosecco and Cricket” evening at the club. What started as a fun introduction quickly grew into something more.
Louise went on to establish the club’s first women’s softball team and, last year, helped launch its first women’s hardball side.
Today, she is an umpire, administrator, team organiser and coach. She leads the club’s girls-only Dynamos programme, captains the women’s softball team and plays women’s hardball cricket.
This year, Bates Cottages reached a significant milestone, with more girls taking part in Dynamos than boys — a reflection of the continued growth of women’s cricket.
For Louise, creating opportunities for girls has always been personal.
“It sounds cliché, but when I was growing up, I didn’t have the opportunity to play cricket. The options were things like dance and gymnastics, and cricket simply wasn’t available to me. I want girls today to have that chance.”
Louise says the most rewarding part of volunteering is seeing young people grow and thrive together.
“You get so much satisfaction from seeing what’s being built and watching the girls achieve together.
Many of them didn’t know each other when they first joined, but they’ve come together, formed a strong team and built real friendships through cricket. Seeing that happen is incredibly rewarding.”

Volunteers’ Week Spotlight: Marcus Turner ⭐
Volunteers like Marcus make a huge difference in cricket, creating opportunities for players of all ages and helping clubs build strong cricket communities for the future.
Marcus’s connection with Tynemouth Cricket Club stretches back to when he first picked up a bat at six years old. Aside from breaks for life events, including raising his young family, cricket has remained a constant.
Marcus returned to the club when one of his daughters joined the club’s All Stars programme. What started as helping out soon became a major commitment to developing opportunities for young players — particularly girls’ cricket.
Over the years, Marcus has played a pivotal role in establishing one of the county’s strongest girls’ cricket sections, helping to create a clear pathway from junior cricket into the women’s game. His work has increased participation and ensured more girls have the opportunity to play long-term.
Alongside coaching, Marcus has served on the club’s board for the past seven years, supporting Tynemouth with sponsorship, facilities, grant applications and club growth.
Marcus runs his own business, making his commitment to volunteering alongside work and family life even more significant.
For Marcus, volunteering is about giving back to a sport and community that has given him so much over the years.
“I’ve got so much out of cricket in my life. I’ve met great people, made lifelong friendships and had valuable experiences, so volunteering felt like a chance to give something back.
“Volunteering teaches you a lot as a person. It builds character and experience and allows you to be part of something bigger.”
Marcus believes volunteers are the backbone of grassroots sport and play a vital role in club success.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to help both a club and its wider community. Without volunteers, clubs simply wouldn’t exist.
“When you see people, teams and clubs progressing because of the work you’ve put in, it’s very fulfilling. Seeing that growth and knowing you’ve played a part in it makes it all worthwhile.”
