Great read! As I was saying in class yesterday, one of the saddest things I have seen happening is how our different choices in pregnancy, labour and birth and parenting have become divisive instead of bringing about understanding and respect for each other's choices. Society as a whole needs to do more to unburden mothers.
Parent trap: why the cult of the perfect mother has to end
Worldwide, mothers are overworked, underpaid, often lonely and made to feel guilty about everything from epidurals to bottle feeding. Fixing this is the unfinished work of feminism

Really good article on the inequality between men and women when it comes to childcare and work and very poignant on the fact that our society undervalues care.

At the start of the pandemic and as the virus was becoming deadlier, we all did our part to help out so as to minimize infection and deaths. Pregnant and labouring women, considered vulnerable, had to go through life transforming events and changes all alone, apart from the few birthing hours when they were allowed a partner. But it was understandable. There was a very infectious and very deadly virus on the prowl. Now however, as society is opening more and more, and we can go to the pub or a restaurant or a campsite, why are hospitals and birthing centres still stick to this strict and inhumane policy of no partners in appointments? Why are they leaving women to have to face all alone potentially bad news or a difficult first stage labour or an emotionally and physically overwhelming period right after the birth of their baby? All by themselves? While the rest of us can hang out with our chums down the pub? If you think it's wrong and inhumane, please sign the petition and add your voice to that of those who demand more compassion and flexibility in maternity services in an already strange enough time.

A really important and fun conversation about the postpartum period and what new mothers REALLY need in spite of whatever society at large expects from them. Both the host and the interviewee offer their wealth of experience with humour and compassion and say the things we should be hearing more often. Great listen for pregnant women and new mothers alike! Enjoy!
Episode 44: Conversation And Guided Meditation With Jane Austin
