⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs Newcastle Benfield Azzurri ⚪⚫

1st Round of the Sunday County Cup 🏆

The Milan girls welcomed Newcastle Benfield Azzurri to Gibside Gardens for the opening round of the County Cup, and it was another new test for the group and one they stepped up to brilliantly. 🫶🏼

It was certainly a day for the attackers. The quality of chances we created as a team gave our forwards plenty to work with, with Maddie scoring six and Wiktoria adding five. 👏🏼⚽️

The main focus today was on keeping possession, moving the ball patiently and waiting for the right opening. We wanted to draw Benfield onto us, create the space, and then attack quickly and aggressively when the opportunity came to break the lines.

The girls are really starting to understand what we’re asking of them. They worked hard both on and off the ball, retained possession really well and constantly gave each other options.

There was some excellent football on display, moving the ball from side to side, using the width of the pitch and showing real patience rather than forcing the play. 👏🏼

Another very solid performance and another example of the girls taking what we work on in training straight into matchday.

⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs NCJ Inter Girls ⚪️⚫️

The Milan girls welcomed NCJ Inter Girls for the latest Newcastle City Juniors derby, with both teams coming into the game unbeaten and once again showing the strength and standard across the club. 👏🏼

Milan started quickly, with a change in formation designed to apply pressure, reduce Inter’s space and make it difficult for them to settle into their usual game. The girls adapted really well and showed exactly what we’ve been working on in training, be patient, control the space, and then be aggressive and direct when the opportunity appears.

Some excellent link-up play saw Wiktoria open the scoring with a neat finish, before another quick break ended with Olivia making it 2–0.

Out wide, Nell and Scarlett caused constant problems, stretching the pitch and driving at the Inter defence. Nell then whipped a dangerous ball into the box which took a deflection and found the net to make it 3–0.

From there, the girls really took control of the game. Milan kept possession well, restricted Inter’s options, and forced them into going long rather than allowing them to get on the ball and play. Further goals from Wiktoria and Maddie sent us into half-time with a 5–0 lead.

The second half started with the same intensity. The girls continued to move the ball well, stay patient in possession and create chances. Maddie and Amira added further goals, while several other opportunities went begging.

Another really solid team performance, built on patience, possession and controlling the game without the ball. Most pleasing of all was another clean sheet. 👏🏼

⚫⚪ Match Report: U12 Milan Girls vs Team Gosforth FC ⚫️⚪️

A huge first step for U12 Milan Sunday Team, as the girls opened their league campaign in Division 6, having played in Division 11 last season.

We made the decision to jump five divisions because we wanted the girls tested, challenged and pushed and today they showed they’re more than ready for it. 👏🏼

Going into the game, we didn’t really know what to expect. The message to the girls was simple: play your game, trust the person next to you, work hard on and off the ball, and leave everything on the pitch.

The first half was a really good contest. Both teams created chances, the game was physical, and the girls stood up to the challenge brilliantly. They stayed patient, stuck to the plan and competed for everything.

At 0–0 at half-time, we made a change of formation to try and create more space and open the game up and it worked.

The breakthrough came from a corner. Wiktoria delivered a brilliant ball into the box, Harper won the header, the keeper could only parry it, and Bella was there to put Milan 1–0 up.

The second came after a fantastic driving run from Izzy, who slipped the ball into Maddie and, in typical Maddie fashion, she powered through and finished to make it 2–0.

From there, the focus became about managing the game. The girls kept the ball, relaxed in possession, opened the pitch up and tried to draw Gosforth onto them rather than forcing things.

Another really mature display from this group. Another clean sheet. And it was brilliant to hear the opposition parents praising the girls after the game. 👏🏼

A big step up in level, but a performance that showed exactly why we made the decision.

🏆 Northumberland County Cup – 1st Round 🏆

NCJ Milan Girls vs North Shields

The opening round of the Northumberland County Cup saw the Milan girls book their place in the next round after a convincing performance against a very good North Shields side.

The girls started really well, keeping the ball, being patient in possession and using the full width of the pitch to try and create openings. Defensively, we were just as strong, restricting North Shields to very few clear opportunities.

One of the big focuses in training this week was simply being patient, keeping the ball moving and waiting for the opposition to commit before exploiting the space and it was great to see the girls take that straight into the game.

The North Shields goalkeeper was called into action a number of times and produced a brilliant performance, but Milan eventually found the breakthrough through Maddie, who showed great feet and strength before finishing well.

That gave the girls control going into the break, and the message at half-time was simple: stay patient, keep moving the ball, and the gaps will come.

The second half followed that plan perfectly. Some great work down the right from Nell created the chance for Olivia to fire home, before Maddie added two more to complete her hat-trick and put the game beyond doubt.

A special mention also has to go to Amira, who stepped into goal after Freya had to come off with a knee problem. She took the gloves without hesitation and did a brilliant job for the team. Fingers crossed Freya is okay and back with us soon. 🫶🏼

Another very strong display from the lasses and, once again, the most pleasing thing was seeing the work from training transfer directly into the game. 👏🏼
