Picasso’s first show went well. He loaded first time at 7 am, he travelled quietly in the trailer. It was a bit difficult to get his boots and tail guards off as there was so much for him to see, he didn’t want to stand still.
We had a bit of a wait outside the arena which all helped settle him down. Once in the arena he was scared of the the flags that were making a lot of noise in the wind, and the bloodhounds in a big cage next to the top of the arena were also making a lot of noise. This meant he didn’t trot as well on his first trot. He was initially put 9th out of 11 in the line up, but after his individual show he was moved up to 7th place. Just out of the ribbons. We need to work on improving standing still in the arena which will develop as he goes out to more shows. A very enjoyable early morning out.

Picasso has been continuing with his show preparation. Today was the first day he has had travel boots on. I borrowed some short ones from a friend. After giving them a good sniff and watching them go on his legs he was happy to have them on all 4 legs after a couple of gentle rubs down with them and not worry about the Velcro noise of the straps. I have also been putting a tail bandage on a few times over the last week, today was the first time he accepted the more padded tail guard.

Picasso enjoyed a walk down to the local pub. Lots of things for him to investigate on the way.

Picasso and I have been practising for our first ever in hand show next week. Unfortunately I can’t find a decent brown hunter type bridle. Cob size with a plain cavesson nose band and brown band. If anyone knows of one for loan or sale please let me know.

Picasso has moved homes to be closer to us. My lovely husband has spent days organising all my horsey things, cleaning mats, weeding paddocks, moving electric fencing and preparing the new stable for Picasso. 🥰
