🎣 QUICK WEEKEND UPDATE

A fresh return from Thursday backs up yesterday’s report.

One rod finished with 9 to the net, plenty of pulls and fish lost at the net. The encouraging bit was that fish came from five different pegs across both ends of the loch — they are not sitting in one corner.

An intermediate line produced, with Hothead Damsel, goldhead white and lime Fritz and Ally McCoist all taking fish.

That is probably the useful takeaway for this weekend: keep moving and do not get stuck on one setup. If the top goes quiet, change depth and fish the water in front of you.

There is still plenty of room across Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the moment.

TIGERS, CLEAR WATER & AUTUMN SPORT

Normal service has pretty much resumed at Wormit, and the last week has produced some serious fishing.

After a difficult late July and August, the loch has properly moved into autumn mode. The water is sitting at around 15.5°C and exceptionally clear, the clearance work has made a substantial difference, and the fish are generally working high in the water.

🐟 RECENT CATCHES

Scott Fraser, who features in this week’s video, landed a superb tiger trout of around 6 lb, possibly a little more. It gave him a proper scrap. Scott and his brother finished with around 30 fish between them and sent their thanks for a cracking day.

Richard Shepherd has also had around 30.

Craig Horsburgh finished with 22+, while Mr Cleary and his partner had 20-odd between them.

James had 17, including three tiger trout. Two of the tigers were around 5 lb and another about 2½ lb. A blue-flash Damsel accounted for 12 of his fish.

Scott Wilson landed 15, lost another five and reckoned he had another 10 to 15 pulls. Scott Pozzi had 14.

Joe Giacchetto had 10 in four hours.

David Baillie landed 9 and lost 8, with what he described as a ridiculous number of offers. Josh Sturrick also landed 9 in five hours, including a tiger, and lost around another 15. Tom Hemmings had around 8 or 9, with numerous other fish lost.

There have been plenty of other rods into double figures as well.

Those numbers are worth reporting, but they are not a promise that everyone is going to catch 20 fish. Experienced anglers who are reading the water and adapting are doing very well. Some less experienced rods are finding it harder. It is still fishing, which is exactly how it should be.

🎯 WHAT’S WORKING

A floating line or short tip is plenty just now, with most fish still sitting high.

Hothead Damsels, blue-flash Damsels, FABs, Diawl Bachs, olive buzzers and the black-and-white Mamba have all produced. Fish have also been taken under the b**g.

The main lesson is not to get stuck doing one thing. Watch the water, change depth or retrieve when the fish switch off, and fish the conditions in front of you.

🌅 EVENING RISES ARE BACK

Sedges are starting to appear again and we are getting proper evening rises. From now through autumn and into spring is when Wormit can really come into its own.

🐟 AUTUMN STOCKING

More than 500 trout have gone into Wormit across the two September stockings, on top of the fish already in the loch.

There is a broad mix of rainbows, blues, browns and tiger trout, with plenty around the 2 to 2½ lb mark and larger fish into the 5 to 8 lb bracket.

🌦 WEEKEND OUTLOOK

Friday currently looks cloudy to start but improving, with temperatures around the mid-teens.

Saturday looks the pick of the weekend at the moment, with brighter spells and temperatures around 17°C.

Sunday looks breezier and more changeable.

🔥 Wormit is fishing its socks off just now.

The change in weather seems to have properly switched things on, and some of the returns coming in have been ridiculous.

🎣 Richard Shepherd finished with around 30 fish.
🎣 Tom Hemmings had around 8–9 to the net and lost plenty more.
🎣 Josh Sturrick had 9 in a five-hour session, including a cracking tiger, and reckons he lost another 15.

Josh summed it up rather well:

“By far one of my most enjoyable fishing sessions to date… at one point every cast you were hooking into a fish. Awesome sport.”

And those aren’t isolated returns. We’ve had other rods well into double figures as well, with not all the catch reports in yet.

The fish are very active and high in the water, with Hothead Damsels doing particularly well just now.

After the two substantial September stockings, there’s a serious mix of fish in the loch as well, including rainbows, blues, browns and tigers, with some much bigger fish amongst them.

🐟 ANOTHER DOUBLE STOCKING AT WORMIT

Yesterday saw the second substantial stocking in around 10 days.

The first batch was mainly smaller fish. Yesterday’s stocking was a very different mix: tiger trout, browns and rainbows, with fish up to 8lb and plenty around the 2lb mark. That is on top of the strong head of fish already in the loch.

And the catches are continuing straight after the stocking:

🎣 James - 17 today, including three tiger trout. Two were around 5lb and the third about 2½lb. A blue-flash damsel accounted for 12 of them, with another five taken on different flies under the b**g.
🎣 Joe Giacchetto - 10 today in a four-hour session

Recent returns also include:

🎣 Richard Shepherd - around 30
🎣 Craig Horsburgh - 22+
🎣 Mr Cleary and his partner - 20-odd between them

And there have been plenty of other catches besides.

Tactics? Keep it simple. Diawl Bachs have been doing very well, as have hothead damsels. James did most of his damage today on a blue-flash damsel, with fish also coming under the b**g. A floating line is all you need.

⚠️ One honest note on the w**d. We have had the water level down slightly while removing cut w**d from the recent clearance work. Loose cut w**d is still blowing into corners and we are clearing it bit by bit. If occasionally picking up w**d is going to bother you, don’t book just now. Simple as that. Conditions are far better and the fishery is fishing well, but it is not w**d-free.

🔥 ANOTHER BUMPER STOCKING AT WORMIT 🐟

Yesterday we put **well over 250 more trout** into Wormit in one substantial stocking, including tiger trout, browns and rainbows, with some cracking fish running up to around **8lb**.

And that comes only around ten days after the previous major stocking.

That means **more than 500 fish have now gone into Wormit across the two stockings**, on top of the fish already in the loch.

There are some seriously impressive fish amongst them, and yesterday’s video gives you a first look.

This cracking tiger trout came to the net today.

He wasn’t the only new face I bumped into either. There’s been a fair bit happening beneath the surface at Wormit today, but I’ll leave that there for now.

🎣 WEEKLY FISHERY UPDATE: WORMIT IS FISHING WELL

The loch is looking excellent ahead of the weekend. The water is crystal clear, sitting around 14.5°C and highly oxygenated. W**d conditions are back to normal, the remaining darker w**d is dying away, and fish are moving throughout the loch.

Anglers are reporting that the fish are switching on and off in spells during the afternoon. When they switch on, the offers come quickly, so stay alert and be prepared to change depth or retrieve between spells.

🎯 WHAT IS WORKING

• Floating lines and midge tips
• FABs fished slowly, with pink particularly effective
• Washing line tactics, buzzers and Diawl Bachs
• Black Snakes and heavier flies on an intermediate

There is no single standout method, which is a good sign. Fish are feeding at different depths, so there are plenty of options.

🐟 STOCKING UPDATE

More than 250 fish have recently been stocked into an already well-rested loch. Another substantial mixed stocking is due shortly, including browns, tiger trout and some larger fish.

🌦 SATURDAY FISHING

Saturday looks favourable for fishing. It may be a little breezy, but Wormit is well sheltered and the moving air will help keep the water beautifully oxygenated.

🌅 LATE AVAILABILITY

Late afternoon and evening sessions are available from 3pm until dusk for £25, subject to availability.

Our standard sessions still offer fishing from dawn until dusk, with a maximum of only 12 rods across six acres.

The water is crystal clear at around 14.5°C, w**d is back to normal levels and fish are active across the loch. In a very windy one-hour test I landed five and lost two; Dale reported around 60 offers during a weekend afternoon.

What’s working:

🎣 QUICK WORMIT WEEKEND UPDATE

A few rods out today in very strong wind, so fishing was understandably tricky.

Best rod finished with five fish, mainly on black Zonkers, with fish also taking Diawl Bachs. A few others were caught around the loch, so not spectacular fishing, but respectable given the wind.

More importantly, I had a good walk around the fishery today and things are looking much more like normal again.

🟡 W**D STATUS: YELLOW

The main w**d problem has been dealt with. The recent wind and the boreholes have moved a few remaining loose cuttings into the margins and we’ll continue lifting those out.

I specifically asked anglers today whether w**d had affected their fishing and nobody had any complaints.

There is still some natural submerged w**d and the odd loose cuttings, so I’m not calling it Green yet, but I’m happy that we’re now back to a normal fishing situation rather than dealing with a w**d problem.

💧 WATER CONDITIONS

Water temperature is now down to around 15°C, clarity is 10/10, pH tested at approximately 7.7, dissolved oxygen is very high and the other water-quality checks are where we want them.

We’ve also been watching plenty of fish active on the surface, including fish jumping and showing around the loch.

One practical note: the loch is currently around 2–3 inches above normal, so there are a few damp or shallow flooded sections around the grass margins. It isn’t affecting fishing positions, but bring wellies or waterproof boots.

TL;DR

Two important points before booking:

If natural submerged w**d, occasionally picking w**d off your fly, or seeing some loose cuttings following the mechanical work is going to spoil your day, please don't book at the moment.

Likewise, if catching a 1¼–1½ lb trout is going to disappoint you because you are specifically looking for larger stocked fish, please don't book on the basis of this stocking.

I'd much rather be completely clear about both points before somebody travels.

THE FULL UPDATE

After a difficult summer, Wormit is now in a considerably better position.

The main Truxor w**d-cutting work is complete, water temperature has dropped back to around 16°C, clarity is gin clear and around 250 fresh trout went into the loch today.

We also had rods fishing yesterday and they caught fish.

Before today's stocking we had the drone up and there was already a substantial number of trout visible in the loch. We counted more than 60 fish around the borehole area alone.

So today's stocking is going on top of an existing head of fish rather than trying to rebuild an empty loch.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

🟡 W**D
The main troublesome areas have now been mechanically cut and the improvement is substantial. That does not mean the loch is w**d-free.

There is still natural submerged w**d in places, and there will also be loose cuttings moving around and collecting while everything settles after the Truxor work. You may occasionally pick a strand of w**d off your fly.

If natural submerged w**d, the occasional bit of w**d on your fly, or seeing loose cut w**d is likely to seriously bother you, please don't book at the moment. I would rather lose a booking than have somebody arrive expecting a sanitised, w**d-free pond and be disappointed.

💧 WATER
Gin clear, around 10/10 clarity.

🌡️ TEMPERATURE
Approximately 16°C.

🐟 FISH ALREADY PRESENT
Before today's stocking we put the drone up and saw a substantial number of fish in the loch. More than 60 were counted around the borehole alone. Rods fishing yesterday also caught fish.

🐟 TODAY'S STOCKING
Around 250 fresh trout went into Wormit today.

🟡 NEW FISH SIZE
Approximately 1¼–1½ lb average.

A NOTE ON THE SIZE OF THIS STOCKING

This batch is smaller than the grade we would normally stock at Wormit.

Our principal supplier has advised that the prolonged hot weather over the summer badly affected feeding and growth. The fish simply have not put weight on at the normal rate, while demand for larger trout is currently running ahead of supply.

Rather than hold the autumn stocking programme back altogether, we have taken a good number of these smaller fish. They are going into a loch which already contains a healthy head of established trout, including larger resident fish.

There is also a huge amount of natural food in Wormit, so it will be interesting to see how these smaller fish develop once they have settled in.

Again, if catching a 1¼–1½ lb trout is going to bother you, or your main reason for visiting is specifically to catch larger stocked trout, please don't book on the strength of today's stocking. There are larger fish in Wormit, but nobody can guarantee which fish will take your fly.

MORE FISH TO FOLLOW

We have another stocking planned from our second supplier over the coming weeks which should bring some larger fish into the mix. As usual, I won't publish a stocking date beforehand. We will update once those fish are actually in and settled.
