Congratulations to Simon Keegan on your appointment as Chairman of the KBI UK/Europe Committee, and to Sensei Paul Wallen on your appointment as Vice Chairman.

It was an honour to be part of such a positive and inspiring meeting, with many members united by the same vision for the future of KBI. I'm excited to see the work of the committee unfold and look forward to supporting its continued growth.

With the hot weather, I decided to slow things down a little and introduce the class to Tensho.

Tensho is one of karate's most advanced kata. Unlike many kata that focus on explosive speed and powerful techniques, Tensho emphasises controlled breathing, flowing circular movements, soft transitions, balance, and tension. Every movement has purpose, teaching how softness and relaxation can generate incredible power and effective self-defence.

For these students , it was completely different to anything they'd practised before.... but they embraced the challenge and gave it their all.

I’m pleased to share that I’ve accepted a role on the KBI World Disciplinary Committee.
I’m grateful for the opportunity and the trust placed in me. The role involves helping to uphold the standards, values, and integrity of the organisation by reviewing concerns objectively, ensuring fair process, and supporting balanced and respectful outcomes for all members.
Having experienced a situation in the past where the treatment and process was inappropriately handled, I feel strongly about the importance of transparency, consistency, and fairness in martial arts governance. I’m committed to approaching this role with an open mind, professionalism, and a genuine focus on fairness and opportunity for everyone involved, and I look forward to working alongside the other members and contributing positively to the committee.

🌍 New belt order 🌍

From our July grading, we’ll be aligning with the new “One World Budokan” belt system.
This means a new colour order is being introduced, so some of you will wear your green belt twice during your journey.
The aim is to keep our colour order consistent with Budokan dojos around the world, so wherever you train, the system is the same.
Remember... the belt colour isn’t what matters. Your progress, effort, and commitment are what truly count.
As Hanshi Mike Tan always says: "belts are for holding up your trousers"
