Missing (stolen?) footballs! 🥲

Last week we discovered someone has gained access to the club store and taken a large quantity of our kids’ Size 3 “Nike Pitch” footballs (see photo).

A small number have been found on the Recreation Ground and kindly handed in at the village hall, but we are still missing over 20 balls.

These were provided by a charity donation for the benefit of our children’s teams only a few months ago. It is really saddening to think that people would take them, or not return them if found.

Please could any locals look out for these balls which are quite distinctive, and mostly marked with the club’s name in permanent marker pen.

If you find any around the village, please message us and we will arrange collecting them ASAP as our training is due to restart in the next few days.

Thank you. 😊

❓Interested in coaching youth football?
❓Keen to introduce kids to the beautiful game?
❓Want to be part of a small, progressive club with great facilities and a supportive family atmosphere?

Following the popularity and success of our existing teams (moving up to U8 and U9 next season), St. Newlyn East AFC Youth are looking for two volunteers to run our new Development programme for children aged 5 to 8 years who are new to the game.

You need to be available once a week for training (day/time is negotiable) and for occasional games. We have a positive, supportive and inclusive attitude at the club with a focus on individual skill development and good team play.

All equipment, admin support and FA training will be provided, and we have some of the best youth facilities in Cornwall with dedicated grass and Astroturf pitches.

Players from our existing programme have gone on to be selected for Saints Southwest regional squads and Plymouth Argyle Football Club academy. We are excited about the next generation and want to give them the best start!

💙⚽️

Please contact Youth Secretary Ben Byfield by PM or email [email protected] for more details.

GOOD LUCK JAYCE

Everyone at St. Newlyn East AFC is super proud of Jayce Kellow from our U8s squad who has been invited to play this weekend for Plymouth Argyle Football Club Academy in friendly matches against both Liverpool FC and Everton Football Club!

🤩🤩🤩

We are so thrilled for Jayce, who is not just a cracking footballer but also a great kid. He has worked so hard at his game the past few months, and we know he will be unstoppable in front of goal. We doubt the Scousers are ready for him!

Bring us home some match balls Jayce!!

⚽️ GAME DAY TOMORROW ⚽️

🔵 U8s Piranhas take on 🔴 Saints Southwest in a friendly at Cargoll Road, 10am KO.

This will be one of our toughest games yet as we face their Cornwall Regional squad. A chance for the players to test themselves against some of the best players in the county. Four of our squad are in this programme, but they will be sporting the blue and white colours tomorrow!
💙🤍💙🤍

Come down to support - spectators welcome and the tea hut will be open! ☕️

🔵 U7s Sharks play 🟢 Falmouth Community, 11am KO at Penryn College.

Our U7s are fast developing into a cracking little team and looking to continue their improvement on the 3G down at Penryn.

Good luck to both sides in what promises to be a busy day for the coaches! 😁

We are very proud of Jayce from our U8s squad who was recently selected to play for a Saints Southwest combined Cornwall, Devon and Somerset side against Southampton FC Academy.

Jayce has been with our St Newlyn East “Piranhas” squad since the team started in 2019. Initially based over at Perranporth, the squad and coaching team moved to St Newlyn East earlier this season to have the opportunity to progress their football to another level, playing more games and gaining new training opportunities. This talented group of players are progressing brilliantly in their new home and play their football very much as a team. Not only is Jayce a cracking little footballer but he has the amazing support of his team mates around him - which is exactly how it should be!

The challenge for every player is to work hard and try their best, whatever their ability - so Jayce’s success is particularly well deserved, achieved by determination and hard work, and with a (very) cheeky smile!! 😆

Watch this space as our talented U8s (including Jayce) sponsored by Penmellyn Vets, Newquay take on Saints Southwest’s Cornwall regional squad and Plymouth Argyle Football Club’s academy side next month as part of their summer friendly schedule.

💙🤍💙🤍

🔴 Jayce – Success Story

Jayce started his Saints Southwest pathway back in August 2020 when we started our first initial trails in Cornwall.

From that Trial period, Jayce was accepted into Cornwall’s Under 7 Regional team and since being accepted has shown he has the will and eagerness to improve his abilities as well as showing brilliant teamwork, listening skills and the ability to adapt for the team which we at Saints Southwest look for within our players.

After the restart from the National Lockdown, Jayce came back to training with a point to prove. Impressing with his attitude towards training, following Saints Values and within match scenarios against local grassroots teams, even playing against Saints SW for his own team St Newlyn East fc. Jayce was selected to have the opportunity to travel up to Langport to be a part of our Under 7’s Rep Squad who played against Southampton FC Bath in a friendly. Jayce went onto score a hat-trick.

We at Saints Southwest would like to thank Jayce’s Parents for giving up their own time to take Jayce up to Langport which from Truro is over 200 miles. This is what Jayce’s Mum had to say about the experience for both parent and child.

‘Jayce was delighted to be asked to be a part of the representative squad in their recent fixture. It was a fantastic experience for him to see the standard of players at that level, and for him to have direction to his own aspirations. He was thrilled to score a hat-trick and hasn’t stopped talking about it since!’

All the coaches at Saints Southwest would like to congratulate Jayce on his selection to the Rep Squad and look forward to seeing what the future holds for this young player.

⚽️ YOUTH UPDATE ⚽️

Since launching the club’s new Youth section at the start of this year (and since the restart of Grassroots football in April) the club have welcomed over 30 local children to our sessions, most of whom have now registered to join either our U8 or U7 squad.

Our coaches and committee have been delighted with the incredible interest, with the talent and personalities of the players, and with the support of the parents. We have also started playing friendly games against local sides which have been a great success.

In recent weeks as the word has spread, we have been overwhelmed with requests from other local children to join our sessions and our squads!

Unfortunately at the present time we now have to temporarily halt the registration of new players to both training and match squads - something we really didn’t anticipate so soon after launching! This has been a very tough decision, but as a club we have to make sure we have adequate supervision and coaching to ensure everyone’s safety, and also our coaches desperately want to give the existing players the best opportunity to develop their football.

With this in mind we want to explain our plans for next season, as we know lots more children want to be part of our club, and we really hope to be able to make that possible very soon...

The current training season will finish in early July. When we restart on 25th August our U7s and U8s will progress to the next age groups at U8 and U9 respectively, and hopefully compete in either the Kernow Youth League or the East Cornwall Youth Football League (tbc).

Behind them we hope to create a new Youth Development squad comprising U7s and U8s (children who are currently in school years 1 & 2, going up to Y2 and Y3 in Sept) as a way for new players to learn and progress their football and feed into future new league teams. This squad will take part in weekly training and have the opportunity to play friendly games against other teams with similar setups throughout the season.

To make this possible we will be actively recruiting for volunteer coaches to take on this group. Please get in touch if you can help
or if you’d like to know more!

For the players who have missed out this season, we will be starting a waiting list for the new group. Please send us a private Facebook message or email us at [email protected] with your child’s, name, school year and town/village.

Thank you everyone for your incredible support. 🙌

Match day tomorrow at St. Newlyn East AFC with U7 and U8 teams both in action against Newquay AFC Youth. Kick off for both games 9:00am on the Recreation Ground.

Exciting news! Having founded St Newlyn East Youth section only this year, we are delighted to confirm that we have already become accredited to The FA Charter Standard. 🏆🏆

This is proof of our commitment to deliver the highest standard of football, and backs up our decision to bring youth football to this fantastic community club, where there is a thriving and supportive environment for our players, coaches and families.

This accreditation from the Football Association will now open doors to additional funding and development opportunities for the club to continue our growth into the future.

Big thanks to our committee, coaches and volunteers for making this possible, and also to Cornwall FA for their support over the last few months as we set out on this exciting journey.

RETURN TO FOOTBALL ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Now we have the all clear to return to football next week, it’s time to update on all the exciting developments here on the youth side at St. Newlyn East AFC.

We have formed two new youth squads:
U7 (6-7 yr olds, Yr 2), and
U8 (7-8 yr olds, Yr 3)

There are a very limited number of squad places still available, so please get in touch with us ASAP using this page or email [email protected] if you’d like to get involved!

We will be training right through the summer on Wednesday evenings, and we have a busy schedule of friendly games and tournaments lined up from April onwards to get the kids back into their football.

Our youth committee and coaching team have also now been confirmed (details below), and our teams fully registered with Cornwall FA. We will soon be applying to enter the leagues for the 2021/22 season which starts in September.

Thanks to Jon Grigg and St. Newlyn East Parish Council, we also have a fantastic new pitch marked out on the Recreation Ground, rolled, cut and ready to play on. Combined with the Astroturf all-weather training pitch, and the club’s wonderful new changing rooms and main pitch, we have a wonderful set of facilities.

We are also delighted to report that we have also secured some significant sponsorship for the youth section of the club and also for each team! Full details to be announced soon, but safe to say we will be among the best equipped clubs in the county.

We are so excited to be bringing youth football to St Newlyn East at last, and cannot wait to host our first sessions and games. Fixture details will be published soon, and from 12th April we hope to welcome spectators, subject to the latest guidelines.

The new FA guidance for clubs, players and parents can be found here:

As a club and coaching team, we will be going to great lengths to make the sessions and matches safe and Covid-secure for everyone. We are so excited about getting our young players back to their football again after such a long break and starting what we are sure is going to be a successful journey for youth football at the club.

If you would like to know more about our club, squads or sessions, please get in touch, and we hope to see some new faces over the coming weeks!

Due to the current Covid restrictions, and in the interests of everyone’s safety, we have decided to delay the launch of our U7 and U8 training sessions (originally planned to start this week).

But Jon has been busy marking out our fantastic new pitch, and once the situation improves we will be raring to go!

For any players at U7 (Yrs 1 & 2) or U8 (Yr 3) ages that are interested in joining the club, please contact us via this page or by email to [email protected] to express your interest. Limited places available.

🙂 INTRODUCING...

St Newlyn East is a proud community football club founded in 1906. The club is based at Cargoll Road, St Newlyn East with a men’s team competing in the East Cornwall Premier League.

The club benefits from one of the best playing surfaces in Cornwall, complimented by brand new changing rooms and a recently installed all-weather floodlit training facility.

The new mini football setup launches in January 2021 initially with U7 and U8 age groups which will be led by FA accredited coaches.

⚽️ TRAINING

We have the use of St Newlyn East’s brilliant floodlit Astro pitch - located on the Recreation Ground just adjacent to the club.

Training will be on Wednesday evenings (term time) from 6:00-7:30pm.

Please get in touch with us if you would be interested in attending one of our sessions.

📅 FIXTURES

We will be playing friendly fixtures for both U7 and U8 age groups against a number of local teams starting in mid-late January until the end of the current playing season.

Home fixtures will be played at the club’s ground at Cargoll Road, St Newlyn East.

↪️ LEAGUE REGISTRATION

In May 2021 we will apply to join one of the local leagues for the 2021-22 season. At U7-U11 age groups all league fixtures are classed as non-competitive friendlies, with recorded scores and league positions only starting at U12.

✍️ PLAYER REGISTRATION

Registration of players will start shortly. Please contact us for more information.

🙋‍♂️ GETTING INVOLVED

We are passionate about creating the best possible environment for the children to play and develop their football. We will be asking for volunteers to support these goals so if you have skills to offer or wish to sponsor one of our teams please get in touch!
