๐๐๐๐๐๐DAY 30/30; THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
Thirtieth day of the in aid of and its the final countdown!
Had the pleasure of swapping for an adaptive surfcraft courtesy of and being pushed into a few peelers. Experienced first hand what I've been fundraising for over this month of September; giving children and young people an opportunity to feel the healing power of the ocean and do things they never thought possible!
Its such a great cause; combining the therapeutic elements of the ocean with the adventure of surfing. It's "a therapy that doesn't feel like therapy".

๐๐๐โ๏ธโ๏ธDAY 19/30; THE BANANA'S NAME IS EVE
Nineteenth day of the in aid of and it was to be an uplifting networking session with
After a quick catchup at Waveproject Cornwall HQ, we hit Towan Beach in the Bay of Dreams. Armed with a swathe of Swellys and grinning from ear to ear to the view of glassy, waist high rollers, everyone was frothing to get in the water!
I was gifted a leashless 8ft Banana Swelly named Eve for today's swap and couldn't have happier. Nick led an awesome warmup and Fred guided us out to the lineup. The energy and warmth from the group was electric; everybody was hooting and hollering each other and there were endless party waves, shakas and high fives.
I'd been feeling pretty low before today's swap due to personal reasons in my life, but this allowed me to feel the true power of a Waveproject session. Being in the water, sharing waves with an awesome bunch of people and feeling the energy from everyone involved filled me with pure happiness and hope. works!!
Huge thanks to for this uplifting swap ๐คand Adam for the photos.

๐๐๐โ๏ธโ๏ธDAY 18/30; THE BADGER
Eighteenth day of the in aid of and it was perfect conditions to awaken The Badger!
A long term favourite among instructors and hire staff , The 6'8 Badger (The Badge) is a wave catching dream machine, and high-tide/chest high/clean Fistral was its prey. Rode as a single fin alongside a squash tail and with plenty of volume, it's the perfect combination to go hard and fast in most sized waves without a scrap!!
Fistral this evening was pumping and there was plenty of waves for all. Caught as many peelers as my arms and shoulders could take before taking it all in with a well deserved refreshment from the balcony of The Beach Bar.
Huge thanks to for this supervelous swap ๐ค

๐๐๐โ๏ธDAY 17/30; SNAPPY SNAPPY
Seventeenth day of the in aid of and it was an evening sesh with good buddy
Today's swap was a 6'2 Blowfish with a quad fin setup by The sun doesn't shine everyday here in Cornwall and this evening was a chilly one. Another subtle reminder that winter is well on its way, but we paddled out to perfect head high peelers at Harlyn.
I haven't surfed many quads (even thrusters are one too many fins for me these days) but really enjoyed sending The Blowfish into some fun sized waves. Plenty of overall volume and width around the tail for control, with heaps of speed from the quad setup.
I also havent snapped many leashes in my time so this evening was very special indeed. Big thanks to Jack for today's swap ๐ค

๐๐๐โ๏ธDAY 16/30; SURFING WOOD IS GOOD
Sixteenth day of the in aid of and it was the perfect opportunity to take out a sustainable performance shortboard.
Peter was one of the first from the local surf community to answer the call for a board swap and I was so chuffed that he did! Sustainability is at the forefront of his design process; from the use of biomass blanks and natural fibres to replace glass and resins, to a wind powered workshop. Everything is being done to change the system of board manufacturing to become more environmentally friendly.
Following a tour of his workshop and his range of exquisite demo boards, its clear how much love and pride go into every one of his creations. I was honoured to be gifted an oak veneered 6'0 single fin for todays swap, freshly sanded and never surfed!
We headed to a waist-chest high Harlyn for some fun ones, and quickly discovered Peter's ultimate ode to surfing sustainably...NO WAX!! I was a little sceptical at first, but then seeing/feeling the texture of the board deck change once it touched the water I was sold.
Many a wave was missed however due to how mesmorised I was by the patterns and grain in the wood between sets ๐ Huge thanks to Peter for today's swap ๐ค

๐๐๐ DAY 15/30; HALFWAY POINT (BREAK)
Fifteenth day of the in aid of and I've made it to the halfway point!
Shoulders/body are starting to feel it and the wetsuit is never dry but this is quickly all forgotten once I'm in the water and riding a few waves. Very BIG and very WINDY on the north coast once again today, so shelter and a board with a bit of volume was on the cards.
I made a sensible swap for a 7'6 Waxworx Ribeye and so glad I did! Absolutely love this board; great shape, heaps of volume, super responsive and the best thing is that you can fit proper FCS fins to give it that extra edge ๐ค
The offshore winds were so strong at the spot I chose and found myself competing more with windsurfers than other surfers! My eyes were bloodshot from the spray and was practically being blown off most of the waves I caught.
BUT the ones I did catch were insane. So much power and speed riding them all the way to the beach with a sweet little cover up closout on my final wave.
Huge thanks to Martina for today's swapโ๏ธ

๐โ๏ธโ๏ธDAY 14/30; RETRO DAWN PATROL
Fourteenth day of the in aid of and it was an opportunity to surf a classic 6'0, deep channelled twinnie from the 80s, supplied by good pal Olly
Originally aquired to style out the roastery, noone knows exactly when this retro beast was last in the water. Today was its lucky day, but the groomed offshore waves in the morning were very soon to be replaced by howling onshores so a dawnie was in order (headtorches optional). The roads and carpark were abuzz with hoards of others with the same idea.
A quick board check followed by a heavy paddleout to the lineup was well worth the effort. The bay was peaking from north to south with plenty of space for the crowd. We found our own spot and took turns in riding the perfect curling faces.
Similar to many of the new boards I've surfed this month already, it really does take a bit of time to get to grips with how the board works. Every board paddles differently, gets into waves differently and turns differently. This has been particularly challenging when the swell gets bigger in size.
After a few wipeouts and hesitant bottom turns I caught a couple of screamers. Huge thanks to Olly for today's swap ๐ค

๐๐โ๏ธโ๏ธ DAY 13/30; IN THE BAY ON A TRAY
Thirteenth day of the in aid of and it was once again time to enter the magical surf lair of
Every time I walk into Stevos place I'm greeted with a warm smile and a feeling of pure stoke! Today was no different. One of the many unique surfcraft that caught my attention from the beginning was The Burger Tray by as it looks the epitimy of pure fun ๐คI just hoped it could "deliver"!
After a quick guide of 'how to', I was proudly strutting my bright red tray through town along the highstreet and down to the bay of dreams. It was a sunny Saturday, midday, head high waves and absolute carnage out there but was determined to get some good rides.
The tray actually turned out to be perfect surfcraft; stylish and quirky
with more surface area than a handplane, a more manageable size to a bodyboard, plenty of raised lip for grip, and a couple of built in fins for control. Caught a few closeouts before grabbing a cracker ending with a satisfying cover up! At that moment I realised I'd officially been served!
Huge thanks to Stevo and for this 'traymendous' swapโ๏ธ

๐๐โ๏ธDAY 12/30; SUP-SURF WITH THE INLAWS
Twelfth day of the in aid of and it was time to get my SUP on!!
Challenging conditions once again on the north coast meant a shelter seeking mission to the south. I've always been wary of anyone in the lineup on a SUP (including myself) due to many a near miss, but give me an empty beach with clean 1-2 foot rollers and I'll be more than happy to partake.
This swap was kindly implemented by the inlaw, who was stoked for the company at her homebreak. After a quick tutorial to using her Starboard 9'6 we well on our way to scoring plenty of mellow, long rides all the way to the beach accompanied by huge grins and hoots!
It was a completely new way of catching waves and took plenty of time to get into it with heaps of wobbles and wipeouts. Timing and paddling early were the key to success, as well as staying in control of such a boatlike craft.
A great swap challenge and a great sesh โ๏ธ
