We are open ALL YEAR, and offer surf coaching for all levels, beginners to advanced. As well as being one of the longest running UK Surf Schools we are also one of the only schools in Newquay with not one, but two ex-professional surfers on our

full time coaching team: Head Coach Mike Young and Senior Coach Reubin Pearce. We've won multiple awards over the years, and consistently are awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence & Travellers Choice Awards

We are open 12 months of the year, 7 days a week. We love teaching complete beginners but we also teach intermediate and advanced coaching and are the only school in Newquay offering outback, progressive lessons on a daily basis. As well as giving complete beginners their first taste of surfing, we specialise in coaching to a more intermediate / advanced level. Many of our clients are those who really want to learn to surf, and gain the skills, ocean knowledge and fitness to be competent enough to surf all over the world. The Team
Our team are fully qualified ISA (International Surf Association) surf coaches and qualified beach lifeguards. All the team have many years of surfing & coaching experience, invaluable when sharing their knowledge with clients, and importantly they all have a passion to share their love of surfing and the ocean. Importantly we are specialists, not generalists - we only teach surfing. Our surf coaches focus their skills on surf coaching, not kayak, SUP Coasteering etc. Location
We are based in the centre of Newquay, overlooking Newquay Bay. We use Towan Beach as our primary teaching location, which is a 1-minute walk away. This is an ideal beach for learning and progression, as its less exposed than many of the other beaches in Newquay, which although are good for advanced surfers, can have very big waves and high winds and very difficult learning conditions. Towan beach is a gently sloping beach which gets regular, consistent waves. Very occasionally we may use other beaches in Newquay (Fistral or Great Western), if the waves at Towan are too small. Teaching Methods
We are proud of our coaching team and their skills; we use a variety of unique techniques, not used by other surf schools, to ensure you will get to your feet on your first lesson. The coaching is “hands on”, with pushes, stability control and in water instruction. You won’t find any of our coaches standing on the beach with a whistle or surfing themselves during the lesson – this is common practise with some other surf schools! Equipment
Rapid progression is very much affected by the equipment, which is why we use top quality winter wetsuits, to keep you warm throughout your lessons. We hold a range of surf boards, from soft beginner boards to progressive hard boards. Our beginner boards are selected based upon their ability to allow our customers to progress quickly. We also hold boots, gloves and hoods for winter surfing. Facilities
Our facilities cannot be beaten in the area. There's no changing in carparks at Escape! We have heated, secure, separate male and female changing rooms, with towels, hairdryers, toiletries etc. We also have powerful, hot showers, perfect for warming up after a winter surf. We have a bar on site (Belushi’s) which serves delicious food all day (customers get 25% off food!) and a hostel upstairs (St Christopher’s Inn) with whom we offer Surf & Stay packages, starting from £60 for 2 nights and 2 lessons. Are you organised, confident with customers, and happy working in a lively beachside environment? A little surf knowledge is helpful (but not essential), and a friendly, welcoming attitude is a must.

This role includes:
✅ Meeting & greeting customers
✅ Responding to enquiries via phone, email, social media and in person
✅Adding bookings to our scheduling system (Viking Bookings)
✅ Taking payments in person and over the phone
✅ Reviewing daily lesson schedules and managing coach availability
✅ Posting daily on our social media channels
✅ Keeping the surf school clean, tidy and running smoothly
✅ General office admin tasks

HOURS: Usual office hours fall between 8am–6pm, with start/finish times varying depending on lesson schedules.

We’re looking for ISA / Surfing England qualified surf coaches to join our coaching team for the 2026 season. Experience is ideal, but not essential — training will be provided. What matters most is that you’re friendly, reliable and passionate about helping people learn to surf.
The role includes:

✅ Delivering beginner & improver lessons to adults and children
✅ Assessing client ability and adapting lessons accordingly
✅ Allocating wetsuits & boards, and cleaning/putting away kit
✅ Maintaining a safe, tidy environment at all times.
