⚽ ST MAWGAN U10s | MATCH REPORT ⚽

☀️ Perfect weather.
⚽ Perfect conditions.
🚗 A short trip to Indian Queens.
🔥 And some seriously good football from St Mawgan.

With a huge pitch and no substitutes, this was always going to be a test. There was nowhere to hide and no fresh legs waiting on the sideline.

The message was simple: let the ball do the running.

Pass. Move. Create space. Support each other.

And from the first whistle, St Mawgan tried to do exactly that.

The football was sharp, the passing was confident and chances quickly started to appear. A few went begging before St Mawgan finally found the breakthrough — and it was worth the wait.

A quick ball out from Finn at the back found Oscar, who took aim with that left foot…

💥 THUNDERBOLT.

Driven across goal and buried into the far bottom corner.

And they didn’t stop there.

St Mawgan continued to move the ball well, using the huge spaces and playing some really impressive football.

At the end of the second quarter, the conversation turned to one thing: decision-making.

When do we pass? When do we drive forward? When do we shoot? Can we make the right choice a little quicker?

What followed in the final two quarters was arguably the best football of the morning.

St Mawgan moved the ball superbly, supported each other all over the pitch and created chance after chance. Somehow, though, that second goal just wouldn’t come.

Until Albi decided to do something about it.

After another relentless run, he shifted the ball onto his left foot, opened up his body and curled a beauty towards the top corner.

🎯 Absolutely no chance.

St Mawgan kept pushing.

Then came another moment of quality.

Finn, who had been excellent at the back all morning, found himself with a ball bouncing in front of him.

One beautifully measured effort later, the ball was sailing over the keeper and into the net.

🤌 Superb.

But this performance was about far more than the goals.

⭐ Mia was fantastic throughout, constantly involved and showing real quality.

🔥 Oscar was brilliant and capped his performance with an absolute rocket.

🧱 Bella was a rock defensively.

⚡ Albi simply didn’t stop running — and got the brilliant goal his performance deserved.

🎯 Matilda couldn’t quite find the goal she wanted, but kept getting herself into dangerous positions. Keep doing that and the goals will come.

💪 Harry’s determination and work rate were excellent from start to finish.

🌟 Finn was a breath of fresh air at the back, calm on the ball, confident in possession and rewarded with a superb goal.

And finally, someone who probably doesn’t get enough mentions…

🧤 BEN!

Outstanding in goal.

He dealt confidently with crosses and shots when called upon, but perhaps even more impressive was his work with the ball at his feet. His movement and distribution helped St Mawgan switch the play and build attacks from the back — exactly the kind of football we’re trying to encourage.

No substitutes. A massive pitch. Plenty of tired legs.

But the team kept passing, kept moving and kept trying to play the right way.

Three goals. Three very good goals. A clean sheet. And, most importantly, some outstanding football.

A pretty perfect Sunday morning. ☀️⚽

COME ON ST MAWGAN! ♥️🩵

‼️ MANAGERS COMMENTS:

🗣️ It was great to see some things we’d been working on come together. During quarters we spoke about decision making- that a good decision is far more impressive than a great bit of skill - especially in the wrong area. Well played all.

‼️ PLAYER OF THE MATCH: This week it could have gone to any of them. They all played really well. Oscar and Mia particularly can close to winning. But this week it goes to 2 players

🌟 BELLA 🌟 Arguably Bella’s best game for St Mawgan. She made some great tackles, found some good passes and most importantly - stayed alert and switched on throughout the match. A great performance Bella, well done 👏

🌟 FINN 🌟 Finn played defence / wing back for the match. Not his usual position but did it brilliantly. He was outstanding. Made some great tackles, some good interceptions and moved the ball quickly when it needed… leading to 2 goals. He was rewarded with a great goal! Brilliant Finn well done 👏

See you all in the week ♥️

⚽ ST MAWGAN U10s – A NEW SEASON BEGINS! ♥️ 🩵

After a fantastic U9 season, followed by a brilliant summer of tournament football, it had been a long wait for the St Mawgan boys and girls to finally lace up their boots and get a new U10 season underway.

Like many grassroots teams, the summer brought a few goodbyes as some familiar faces moved on. But it also brought exciting new additions.

We were delighted to welcome Albi, a left-footed bundle of energy who seemingly never stops running, and Giulio, who has already shown that he has a few outrageous skills in his locker! Both have fitted into the group brilliantly and already look like fantastic additions to the team.

And what better way to start the new season than against some familiar opposition…

Old rivals St Blazey.

🏟️ Treviglas Academy, Newquay
⚔️ St Mawgan vs St Blazey
🔥 New season. Old rivalry.

From the first whistle, the game lived up to expectations.

Both teams battled fiercely, competed for every ball and, more importantly, played some fantastic football — at times producing a level of passing, movement and composure well beyond their years.

The opening stages were incredibly tight. St Mawgan pushed forward looking for the breakthrough, while Bella, Jonny and Harry were superb at the back — calm under pressure, strong in the challenge and composed with the ball.

Alongside them, Albi covered seemingly every blade of grass, working tirelessly both in and out of possession.

Then, in the second quarter, came the breakthrough.

Oscar unleashed a brilliant long-range strike which thundered against the angle of the crossbar and post. The ball somehow stayed out, sparking a frantic scramble inside the St Blazey box.

It eventually fell back to Oscar.

He didn’t need asking twice.

Another effort flew towards goal, took a deflection on its way through…

AND THIS TIME IT WAS IN! ⚽🔥

Deadlock broken.

St Mawgan continued to push, and all that hard work soon paid off again. The ball dropped to Harry inside the penalty area and, showing all the composure of a seasoned striker, he calmly slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Cool. Calm. Clinical. 🎯

As the match entered the third quarter, the game began to open up.

St Blazey came forward with real purpose, but Ben was outstanding between the posts. When St Mawgan needed him, he was there — producing some fantastic saves to keep St Blazey at bay.

At the other end, Giulio decided it was showtime. ✨

Some brilliant footwork and slick individual skill caused St Blazey all sorts of problems, eventually drawing a foul inside the box and earning St Mawgan a penalty.

The quality of football continued.

Mia began finding pockets of space and threading some excellent passes into the forward players, only for an inspired St Blazey goalkeeper to deny St Mawgan on several occasions.

But eventually, the movement and passing created another opening.

A sharp St Mawgan move saw Finn pick out a brilliant pass into Matilda.

One chance.

One finish.

GOAL! ⚽

Matilda calmly slotted the ball home to finish off a fantastic team move.

St Blazey, though, weren’t finished.

Late pressure saw them awarded a penalty of their own. Ben had been magnificent throughout and gave it everything, but the resulting spot kick was simply unstoppable.

Nothing he could do.

It was a fitting final twist in what had been a fantastic contest between two very good young teams.

More than anything, though, this performance showed just how exciting the season ahead could be.

New players settling straight in.
Old partnerships picking up where they left off.
Brilliant defending.
Fantastic saves.
Skills, passing, movement, determination and goals.

But perhaps most importantly…

A group of children back together, playing football and loving it. ❤️⚽

A fantastic match.
A fantastic team.
And a brilliant way to begin the U10 journey.

If this is a sign of what’s to come, we’re in for one exciting season at St Mawgan! ♥️🩵🔥

🌟 Player of the match 🌟 MIA 🌟

A tough choice today but POTM goes to our no.10 MIA.

Not only did she show her usual fight and tenacity, she moved the ball brilliantly and found some great passes 👏

‼️ Managers comments:

🗣️ A great morning and amazing to be back on the pitch. Despite only one training session before today’s game, the team played really well 👏.

We spoke about at half time / fully time needing to try and put into games what we practice in our training sessions.

An enjoyable morning! See you all in the week 🙌

Sharon Wood Tournament – St Mawgan Youth U9s

A chilly start to the morning soon gave way to glorious sunshine, making for a warm and busy day with a fantastic atmosphere at the Sharon Wood Tournament.

St Mawgan’s day began against MAP, a team that has slowly become something of a nemesis over recent months. This time, though, the team were right at it from the first whistle. They produced some excellent passages of play, moved the ball brilliantly, and finished with a couple of superbly worked goals to get the tournament off to the perfect start.

The games came thick and fast, but the standard never dropped. Throughout the day, St Mawgan played some outstanding football, combining fantastic passing and teamwork with moments of real individual brilliance.

After seven group games, St Mawgan found themselves sitting proudly at the top of the table. They had won six games, drawn one 0-0, and incredibly had not conceded a single goal all tournament.

Following a long wait, the semi-final finally arrived. Once again, the team produced another excellent performance, securing their place in the final with another victory—and still without conceding a goal.

The final brought another meeting with MAP. St Mawgan took the lead through a superbly taken free kick and defended heroically for much of the game. With the finish line in sight, however, MAP managed to grab a late equaliser to send the match into extra time.

Tired legs continued to battle, showing incredible determination and resilience, but a long-range strike from MAP found its way past Ben to give them the lead. St Mawgan threw everything forward in search of an equaliser and created some good opportunities, but despite their best efforts, it wasn’t to be.

Another tournament final that has just slipped away—but what a team this is becoming.

The day ended on a wonderful note when the tournament organisers commented on how close the final had been. They also told us that St Mawgan had recorded one of the best league-stage records of the entire tournament and praised the team for being one of the best behaved and most respectful groups there.

Results are always nice, but hearing those comments about the players’ attitude, sportsmanship and respect means just as much.

A huge well done to every single player. You should all be incredibly proud. Keep playing football the St Mawgan way, and the trophies will come. ♥️🩵⚽

Players of the tournament…. Everyone! It’s impossible to choose!

🗣️ Managers Comment:

We played some outstanding football today and the team should be proud. Another final lost which is sad but another lesson to be learnt. I think as a team we need to find a way of being more excited than nervous and go into these games with a more positive attitude.

It was clear how nervous they were which had a big impact not only on a couple of chances that normally would be taken but the energy levels.

Overall, a day to be proud of. What a team, what a bunch of kids ♥️

Thanks Wendron FC

🚨 RETAINED 📣 REF ROSS 📣

Arguably the best news coming out of St Mawgan U9s is that Ross is staying as head ref.

Never scared to make a difficult decision, or leave Amy or Lily chasing Ellie on the sidelines - Ross in invaluable and has become the most important part of the squad (every other week and if not working anyway).

Thanks for committing to another year Ross 🏁♥️

🚨 RETAINED 🌟 JONNY 🌟

I’m incredible proud to say Jonny is staying with us next season.

Jonny has become an absolute rock in defence, a tank going forward and is a huge asset to the team.

Loom forward to another year coaching Jonny and watch him develop even more 💪

🚨 RETAINED 🌟 MATILDA 🌟

Matilda joined us at the start of the season and with her bubbly personality, silky skills and thunderous right foot - fit into the team perfectly 💪

Matilda is an asset to the team and I’m thrilled she’s staying for another year 🙌
