☀️🏆 LISKEARD PRO20 TOURNAMENT 2025 🏆☀️

What a day for St Mawgan U9s! ♥️🩵⚽

With blazing sunshine beating down all day, the players battled through soaring temperatures fuelled by plenty of water 💧, ice creams 🍦 and sun cream ☀️🧴.

The tournament didn’t start the way we wanted, with a narrow 1-0 defeat in our opening game. But what happened next showed exactly what this team is made of… 💪🔥

Playing in arguably the strongest tournament St Mawgan have ever entered, against some incredible teams from across Cornwall and Plymouth, the players responded in spectacular fashion. ⚽✨

From that moment on, St Mawgan went the entire remainder of the tournament unbeaten! 🙌

The football on display was outstanding. The determination, resilience and maturity shown by these young players was far beyond their years. 👏 ♥️🩵

After finishing joint top of the league, we progressed to the Cup knockout stages. 🏆

⚔️ Semi-Final Drama ⚔️

The semi-final saw us face an unbeaten side from the other league. It was a fiercely contested battle with neither team willing to give an inch. After a tense draw, the game went to penalties… 😱

The pressure was immense.

🎯 Oscar stepped up… scored.
🎯 Matilda stepped up… scored.
🎯 Finn stepped up… scored.

Fearless. Ice-cold under pressure. ❄️⚽

And then there was Ben… 🧤🔥

Making save after save, producing moments of brilliance when it mattered most. An incredible performance that helped send St Mawgan through to the final! 🙌

🏆 THE CUP FINAL 🏆

By now, the effects of a long day in the scorching sun were beginning to show. The players were exhausted, having given absolutely everything throughout the tournament. ☀️😓

But despite tired legs, they dug deeper. ❤️

Facing one of the strongest teams around, St Mawgan defended heroically, battled for every ball and refused to give in. 🛡️⚔️

When the final whistle blew, the scores were level.

Another penalty shootout.

This time…

For the Cup. 🏆😬

One by one, our players stepped forward in front of a growing crowd. Every single one showed incredible courage and character. 👏

The penalties kept going…

And going…

And going…

Neither side could be separated.

It wasn’t until the 14th penalty taker that the opposition finally edged ahead and claimed the trophy.

Heartbreaking. 💔

But what a way to lose.

🌟 Proud Doesn’t Even Cover It 🌟

The quality at this tournament was exceptional, with some outstanding teams competing throughout the day. To go toe-to-toe with the very best and come within a single penalty of lifting the Cup is an incredible achievement. 👏⚽

The effort, determination, commitment and competitiveness shown by every player was simply outstanding. Add in some fantastic football, brilliant skills, epic goals and tremendous teamwork, and it made for a truly unforgettable day. ⭐

Most importantly, the sportsmanship shown throughout the tournament was first class. 🤝♥️🩵

As a coach, I couldn’t be prouder of every single player.

You represented St Mawgan brilliantly.

Heads held high. ♥️🩵 ⚽

This half term, St Mawgan played in the VX3 Cup in Torquay 🌞

Another great experience for the team, getting to play at Plainmoor Stadium 🏟️

The standard of the competition was incredible 😮. St Mawgan got off to a tricky start but got stronger as the day went on 💪

Well played all ♥️ 🩵

Yesterday, St Mawgan U9s had the great experience of playing in the Babcock cup at Home Park - the epic 18k seater Plymouth Argyle Stadium 🏟️

Like last year, it was a great privilege and amazing experience for all the players and everyone involved ♥️

St Mawgan got off to a great start, playing some great football to win their opening game.

We knew the league stage was going to be tough with many of our opponents being local rivals. Despite losing a couple of games, St Mawgan got back some momentum- winning and drawing their final 2 games. It wasn’t quite enough and the team narrowly missed out on making the knock out stages.

Every match was great to be part of and to watch- not just the St Mawgan games. The quality in our league was outstanding with the majority of teams beating each other - and the vast majority of games being decided by a single goal.

Players of the tournament.

🌟 JONNY 🌟 Jonny had a great tournament. He was calm on the ball, made great passes and scored a goal in the final game to nearly secure us going through to the knockout stages. Well played Jonny! 👏

🌟 BEN 🌟 Ben as usual showed his great goalkeeping skills throughout all the matches but is getting player of the tournament because he made one of the best saves I’ve ever seen at grassroots football. In true Emi Martinez style he seemed to claw the ball back despite being beaten from a close range effort. Not only did he claw it back (somehow 😮), he bounced back up and saved a quick rebound effort. Genuinely unreal goalkeeping for someone so young! 😮 🧤🧤🧤

Thanks to everyone involved for a great day! 🙌

🚨 Sad news coming out of St Mawgan U9s 🚨

I’m sad to report that Riley and Kit are leaving this St Mawgan U9 team 😢

Riley has been with us since the start and Kit not long after. Both have been reliable players, great teammates and leave behind 10 friends ♥️

The good news is they are only going to the newly formed St Mawgan U9 sharks 🦈. A new team set up and coached by Riley’s dad Kier ⚽️

Everyone would like to wish Riley, Kit & Kier the very best of luck and hope they have an amazing summer of tournaments and a great maiden season! 🏆

We need your help!

We have a few tournaments coming up and are in need of a Gazebo to keep the kids out the rain / hopefully sunshine ☀️ 🎪

Choose a team on the scratch card - it’s £5 per entry - winner gets £100 and the team get a tent 😄

I’ll update the clubs that have been sold on the comment section ⬇️

Something different today 👀

As the season is coming to an end, this morning we did something different and played some of our own! ♥️🩵

A few months ago Kier and Rikey decided to part ways with our team and start up St Mawgan u9 sharks 🦈 . Today we had the privilege of playing them and witnessed just how much they’ve developed 🙌

For a new team they did brilliantly. Some brave defending and some epic saves! 😮

Despite missing some key players, St Mawgan played some great football throughout and made it difficult for the sharks.

A big shout out to the player of the match… Kit! He scored 2 goals and did brilliantly when played as a keeper 🙌

Kit will soon be joining the sharks and we wish him the best !

Also a big shout out to Matilda. On a couple of occasions she showed much more desire and bravery to win the ball back and got ‘stuck in’! Brilliant to see her develop 🏆

🚨 Match report 🚨

Today, St Mawgan U9s headed over to Charlestown for a later than usual kick off.

The sun was out and the reception from Charlestown was as warm as ever! 🙌

St Mawgan started off slow, and were punished by an energetic Charlestown team who took the lead in the first quarter.

The hugely improved Charlestown team continued to press in the second quarter and despite a series of fantastic saves from Ben doubled their lead to 2! 👏 👏 👏

The third quarter started and St Mawgan slowly came into the game. A goal from Jonny gave the travelling a team some hope heading into the 4th and final quarter 😰

A brilliant run from a Charlestown player Resulted in a goal making the comeback seem unlikely. In the dying minutes St Mawgan did pull one back when a left footed effort from Oscar found the back of the net however despite pressure couldn’t level up the game.

A huge congratulations to Charlestown who have shown such improvement over the season 👏

POTM: 🧤 BEN 🧤

Ben made some incredible saves throughout the tie! He’s become a vital member of the team and his improvement week on week is admirable 🙌

🗣️ Managers comments:

A disappointing day. The standards recently have dropped and we need to remember the basics on and off the pitch which made us such a strong team.

Hard work, discipline, respect, teamwork are vital as football players and as a team. They are even more important as we grow older.

A new week, we will start again Wednesday ⚽️

See you soon ♥️

Sunshine, smiles, and sensational football — what a day at Trevarrian for St Mawgan Youth U9s!

With the pitch stretched wider and both sides fielding 8 players, this felt like a big-game occasion from the very first whistle… and St Mawgan wasted absolutely no time rising to it.

They exploded out of the blocks. Within minutes, Oscar unleashed a fierce effort that the Charlestown keeper could only parry — and like a true goal-poacher, Matilda was there in a flash to tuck home the rebound and ignite the game. 1–0, and the tone was set.

Before Charlestown could catch their breath, St Mawgan struck again. Sharp thinking, quick feet, and even quicker minds saw them take a lightning-fast corner — catching everyone off guard — and suddenly it was 2–0. Clinical. Clever. Brilliant.

The first half belonged to St Mawgan. Across the opening two quarters, they played some truly eye-catching football. Passes zipped across the grass, players moved intelligently into space, and the teamwork on display was a joy to watch. It wasn’t just effective — it was beautiful football.

But credit to Charlestown — they refused to fade.

After the break, they came roaring back into the contest with energy and determination. Their efforts paid off as they battled their way to a well-earned goal, shifting the momentum and reminding everyone that this game was far from over.

Then came the final quarter… and the drama wasn’t done yet.

St Mawgan regrouped, refocused, and rediscovered their rhythm. The passing returned, the movement sharpened — and the chances followed. Matilda struck again with a composed and confident finish to restore breathing space, before Oscar stepped up to deliver a moment of magic.

A free kick… a strike… and WOW.

Oscar unleashed an absolute wonder goal — a rocket that left everyone watching in awe and put the perfect exclamation mark on a fantastic performance.

Full-time: a brilliant game played in brilliant spirit.

From flowing team football to moments of individual brilliance, this had everything. Most importantly, it was played with smiles, energy, and pure love for the game.

What a day. What a match. And how good is it to be back playing football in the sunshine! ☀️⚽

🏆 Player of the match 🌟 MATILDA 🌟

This week it could have gone to a few players. Harry came close with some hard work and great goals, as did Coby who caught hard.

It’s gone to Matilda because not only did she grab herself a couple of goals - she also showed much improved evert and determination in winning the ball back! 💪

Well done Matilda. Keep it up! 🙌
