Coronavirus Regulation Changes in Northern Ireland from 1 April 2021
The Northern Ireland Executive has recently reviewed the current COVID restrictions and announced a number of relaxations which apply from today (1 April). This notice replaces the previous restrictions advised for 1 April.

Up to ten persons from no more than two households can now take part in outdoor ‘sporting events’ as defined by the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions No.2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020.

This means that outdoor activities can now be carried out at riding schools and equestrian centres provided they do not involve a gathering of more than ten persons from two different households.

This means that a riding coach/instructor can teach a group of up to 9 people from one other household outdoors.

Access to riding schools and equestrian centres for animal welfare purposes continues to be permitted. Essential toilet facilities are allowed to be open.

Horse owners may hire an outdoor arena in which to have a lesson or exercise their horse(s) within the number restrictions outlined.

Indoor equestrian events and training cannot take place unless all of the participating athletes are elite athletes.

Outdoor equestrian events, training or horse racing cannot take place unless all of the participating athletes are elite athletes or the number of participants does not exceed 10. No spectators are permitted to attend. A further update will be provide as soon as possible regarding any changes from 12 April 2021.
