⚽ DAMOLLY LADIES v ASHGROVE LADIES ⚽ �Friendly | Norman Brown Park

First and foremost, a massive thank you to Ashgrove Ladies for making the trip down to Norman Brown Park on what can only be described as a very miserable, wet August evening! 🌧️

It was brilliant to get back onto the pitch and get another match under our belts.

From the first whistle, Damolly were up for it. Every player on the pitch gave absolutely everything, and some of the football on display was fantastic to watch.

In midfield, Chloe and Jenna worked tirelessly - supporting the attack, creating opportunities, and tracking back whenever Ashgrove looked to break. Their work rate meant the defence was never left exposed and helped Damolly control large parts of the game.

At the back, Emma, Lucy and Lisa were rock solid. Selina put in an outstanding shift, making run after run down the left, opening up opportunities going forward and still getting back into position every time she was needed. Lucy was equally impressive - composed and strong defensively while continually looking to move the ball forward and link with midfield.

And what can we say about the forwards? 🔥
Laura and Vicky caused problems all evening, with Tanya and Barbara working the wings and feeding ball after ball into dangerous areas.

Chance after chance came before Laura finally found the net with a cracking wee chipped finish to put Damolly ahead. Not long afterwards, Vicky made it 2–0 following a brilliant run and finish.

Ashgrove certainly weren’t giving up. A cracking strike flew just wide before they produced an absolute rocket of a free kick: powerful, accurate and heading for goal - but the Damolly keeper stood strong, made a fantastic save, and got the danger cleared. 🧤

That gave Ashgrove some momentum and they pushed hard, but Damolly dug in and held firm.

After the next break in play, Ellen, who had come on out wide, made an immediate impact. From the whistle she broke forward, carried the ball into the danger area and found the back of the net for a very well-deserved goal to make it 3–0.

Ashgrove continued to create some dangerous breaks towards the end, but the Damolly defence worked brilliantly, with numerous vital blocks from Emma and Lisa, covering back and dealing with any danger as a unit - including some tricky situations from keeper clearances!!!! And they refused to let anything through.

And there was still time for Laura to grab another well-deserved goal, rounding off the evening and sealing win for Damolly.

The scoreline was great, but the biggest positive was the overall team performance. The passing, accuracy, communication, positioning and reading of the game were fantastic. Every single player gave 120%, supported each other and played as a team from the first whistle to the last.

Every single player could have been named Player of the Match for their contribution, perhaps just edging it is Selina for her constant cover, breaking runs and never-give-up attitude.

A special shout-out also has to go to Pauline, who was absolutely fantastic in defence - albeit for the opposition! 😂 A huge thank you for stepping across and helping Ashgrove out so that the game could go ahead. That’s exactly what these friendlies are all about. 👏

Huge thanks to Dan for all his input at training and keeping the ladies working together all match. Also big thanks to Paul for stepping in as referee!!

Finally, another huge thank you to Ashgrove Ladies for travelling down and giving us a great game, and to every supporter who braved the rain and stayed with us right to the end. 🌧️👏

The ladies really appreciated the support and it was brilliant to see you all there.

Hopefully this is the start of plenty more regular football over the coming weeks and months.

Each year we hold our game Damolly Ladies have always came out in great numbers and been great supporters of our games through volunteering making coffee, tea and doing tuck shops.

What a day for Damolly Social Women! 💙🧡⚽

A massive thank you to Womens Social Soccer, Newry Ashgrove, for hosting such a brilliant tournament today! Great football, great craic, and somehow they even managed to keep the rain away… which deserved an award of its own! ☀️🌧️

Thanks also to Kick 2 Connect for their continued support of women’s social football. Seeing so many teams out today was absolutely fantastic and really shows the appetite is there for women of all ages to pull on a jersey, get on the pitch and enjoy the game.

And what about our Damolly women! 🧡💙
Every single player who donned the jersey today did us proud. On a muggy day in Newry, the legs were tested, the hair was frizzing, but the football was flowing! There were goals, tackles, passes, teamwork, determination but most importantly, plenty of laughs along the way.

A special shout out to Daniel for keeping us all organised and on track today (no easy job with this bunch)!😜

Well done everyone. Social football at its best: fun, friendship, football and a few tired legs tomorrow! 💙🧡
