Newton Aycliffe u23s

The U23’s welcomed New Brancepeth to a top of the table clash today with Aycliffe sitting top prior to KO. We had the normal late withdrawals in the 24 hrs to KO but still turned out a strong squad.

KO time and the game started with a very high tempo, with the lads pressing and fighting for every ball. A great move saw Aycliffe take the lead from a great header by Charlie Wright, which finished off a great passage of possession. Aycliffe were disciplined and on the front foot and they were rewarded when Charlie Walton finished well to put us 2-0 up on 20 mins. We limited the visitors to mainly long range efforts with the back line linking up superbly. We really should have added more before half time, but our decision making in the final third wasn’t great. HT 2-0.

Second half and instructions were to keep it simple and look after the ball with as much possession as possible. The lads carried it out to perfection, limiting the visitors to hardly any scoring opportunities. 90 mins on the clock and we switched off for a split second allowing the visitors to grab a scrappy goal, however the lads remained composed to see out added on time to win 2-1. A fantastic squad performance today against a really good team. MOTM went to Cameron Martin, who was class in an excellent back 4 performance today. Still

Our U23’s start their pre season today with a local Derby away to the sports club @ moore lane. This is also a memorial game in memory of Ian Lawson. Ian is the dad of one of our players Damian Lawson. Ian sadly passed away during last season after a long fight against illness. The strength and fight that Ian showed was nothing short of remarkable. Both Ian and his wife Kelly, followed Damo and the juniors every week since Damo was in the U7’s and was a true loyal NAJFC supporter, along with his other true love, Middlesbrough FC. But nothing could top his love, devotion and loyalty to his loving and supportive family. This game gives us chance to say thank you to Ian and his family for their support, and also a chance for us to show them we will always be there to support them too. The game kicks off at 10:30, so if anyone fancies a look down, it would be nice to see you down there. Good luck to all other NAJFC teams playing today.

Bearpark 2-2 Aycliffe u23s

U23’s hold on to top spot in the league after a really well fought physical game away to second place Bearpark. The hosts were fast out the block and for 20 mins played at a high tempo, but Aycliffe looked really comfortable in midfield and defence…..it was Aycliffe who made the better chances but then in their only attack, the hosts forward took the ball round our keeper who collided with the attacker to give a penalty. 1-0 to Bearpark against the run of play. Aycliffe then Took control and Burrows cut in from the left and curled a great effort into the bottom corner to equalise. Lawson then added to his seasons impressive goal Tally when he slammed home a loose ball to make it 1-2 Aycliffe. We should have added to the score line, missing 2 clear chances but went in at half time 1-2 up. Second half and the game got even more physical, both teams giving 100%. It looked like we were going to take the 3 points but then a quick break from Bearpark resulted in a scrappy goal to make it 2-2. The remaining minutes saw chances for both teams with Sanderson Howes in goal making up for conceding the penalty with 2 great saves in the dying minutes. Game finished 2-2 honours even. A really tough physical game not for the faint hearted. Mom was a joint one shared by Curtis Curl who was dominant in defence and also Tom Aspinall, who had a sublime debut in midfield. Well Done lads, 3 massive games coming up now 👊⚽️

Our u23s are back in league action tomorrow at whitworth academy on 3G as we host bearpark. Kick off is 10:45am, any support would be greatly appreciated. 🤞⚽️

Excellent result today despite having lots of players unavailable. The lads have had a tough couple of weeks but put in a fantastic performance this morning. We dominated majority of the game and missed some glorious opportunities to extend our lead but a great result in the end.

Fantastic hattrick by Damo and solid at the back from Matty Moffat earned them both motm. 👏⚽️

The lads are in semi final action tomorrow as we host ouston cherry tree fc at Parkside on 3G. We are looking to bounce back from a disappointing result last week as we look to make our first final together as a group! 🤞⚽️ kick off is 12:30pm and any support would be greatly appreciated.

No game for the lads this morning due to new Durham pulling out of the league on Friday. Fingers crossed the weather stays good for next week as we travel to witton Gilbert. 🤞⚽️

Disappointing result this morning against spenny volti. Comfortably the worst performance of the season and full credit to the volti who deservedly won this morning.

Motm was awarded to Curly and shawsy scored the only goal for us.

We go again next week against new Durham at home!

Merry Christmas to all our players, players families and Newton Aycliffe junior FC. Considering this team was only formed in June we’ve had one hell of a start to the season and can’t wait to get going again after Christmas. Merry Christmas everybody 🌲🎅.
