Yesterday saw the conclusion of the 1st and 2nd team seasons.

1st team finished 2nd in the Liverpool Comp Premier Division (highest position ever for the club) and beating the target set at the start of the season as top 6 and maybe get a Lancashire Cup spot.

2nd team finished 4th in the 2nd team Premier league. A tremendous achievement not least the young age of the side with many coming through our junior set up.

2nd team v Rainford - A 3 wicket win with highlights being Sam Castle 3 wkts for 4 runs. Uzair 4-25 and then 19 not out with the bat. Team contained 7 x U18, 4 of which were U15 age group plus Emilia Lamb who is in the county academy. 👏

1st team v Leigh - A somewhat disappointing end to the season not helped by some mid morning rain. 1st team had to win to have any chance of being crowned champions. The two teams couldn't agree on a start time so eventually play got under way at 2.30pm (last possible moment). Leigh batted first and reached 226-7 after 60 overs. With no declaration coming and Newton only having a maximum of 50 mins to bat at that point - a no decision result was recorded due to fading light. The intricacies of time cricket unfortunately.

Two Cup wins for the 1st team this season so despite the "disappointment" of the last league game, a pretty successful season. 👏

The club are delighted to confirm that Mohammad Saleem our overseas player for 2026 has committed to another year at Newton.

"Sal" travels back to Pakistan on Monday and then returns to Newton in April 2027.

What a weekend!!!!

6 games won!!!!

3 for the 1st team (1 x league on Saturday and 2 x T20 on Sunday including the Echo Cup Final)
2nd team winning Saturday
3rd team winning Sunday
4th team winning Sunday which means a league title for the 4ths.

1 week to go of a long season and the 1st teams cup win today follows their cup win a few weeks back (40 over comp), the 4th team winning the league, U18's crowned as champions and our U15s who did the league and cup double.

Huge congratulations to our cricket sections 1st XI who today beat Rainhill CC in the final to lift the Liverpool Echo Trophy.

With the Ray Digman Trophy already secured … that’s the double completed💪

From a selfish view this is sad news!!😢🙈 but in all seriousness the club is delighted for George.

George has signed a short term loan deal with Essex and everyone at Newton wishes George all the very best in the weeks ahead.

Zac Perren will now captain the side as a result of the absence of Ben (Walkden) and George.

Further opportunities for our younger players in the weeks ahead to experience 1st team cricket.

The wicket-keeper batter joins on loan from Lancashire for the remainder of the season and will keep wicket for the rest of the ongoing Rothesay County Championship match against Sussex.
