A lot of people when you mention a Personal Trainer will think of those annoying people in the gym who are trying to sell you a 6 week programme.

However I like to describe a Personal Trainer in the same way as a driving instructor.

Instead of just turning up to the gym and copying what others are doing, why not sign up for some Personal Training sessions and learn the safe and correct technique in a private environment?

I have a private studio where no one else can just turn up and use on their own so you wont have to worry about what others think when trying new exercises for the first time.

Message me for more information and come down for a FREE consultation and then decide afterwards what your next step will be?

As Christmas and New Year fast approaches everyone starts to neglect their training and the famous phrase “I’ll start the gym after Christmas” is passed around a lot.

When you finally start the gym you’ll find it absolutely packed with everyone else who has the same idea as yourself.

Why not sign up for some personal training sessions, where there’s no one else around and you can focus on yourself and your own goals without the worry of others watching.

Benefits of having a personal trainer are:

🏋️ Learn the safe and correct movements of individual exercises.

👏 Pushed more on exercise than you would on your own.

🏆 Being held accountable and help guided towards your goals.

📚 Create fitness plans for when you go to the gym on your own.

😁 Help create a friendly and positive environment when exercising.

Messages like this is what keeps me striving for success with my clients.

Quite often people will always set their goals to drop or increase their weight on the scales, but I’ve always said unless you’re entering a sporting event why do you need to care what number appears when you step on the scales.

The scales can be a great indicator as to how your progress is going but surely taking progress photos or simply seeing how much better your clothes fit now is a greater sight than just a number.

Alex is absolutely smashing the personal training sessions and still keeps her Friday night take always going whilst being too small for her dress.

If you are interested in starting personal training or need that extra help/ push in your fitness goals please message for more information.

Goal Setting & SMART Targets:

In order to stay focused and maintain your fitness journey you need to set an end goal for what you want to achieve.

Although it’s very easy to just say lose weight or get more lean. The bigger question is how will you actually achieve this?

With the help of SMART Targets you can break down the FIVE key questions that will help you get to your end goal easier.

⭐️CLIENT PROGRESS⭐️

I’ve been working with Alex for a couple of months now and during that time I’ve seen a huge difference, not just in her journey to lose weight but also her strength increasing too.

Alex is a mam of two kids and her job is fairly sedentary so her last focus was on the gym and her diet.

However once she came to see me we managed to put a simple plan in place which meant she could still enjoy her life outside the gym and not be restricted when achieving her weight loss goals.

Progressive overload is when you gradually increase the weight or frequency of your exercise.

When we are training with weights it’s very easy to add on a couple of extra reps and sets or adding more weight to your barbell.

However if you’re using a 20kg bar and only add on 5kg plates on each side, thats a 50% increase in weight which may not seem like such a large increase since it‘s 10kg.

Just think if you were to increase your 50kg weight by 50% that would be adding 25kg totalling 75kg, which to me thats quite a large amount to jump up to.

By using the smaller incremental weights like a 0.5kg or even a 2.5kg plate each time you use the bar, although it may seem like a small increase by just adding on the smaller plates, eventually after a couple of times using them your overall weight on the bar will have increased without even noticing the massive jump.

So stop being embarrassed by the smaller weights and listening to stupid phrases like “more plates = more dates” and just add a small amount each time you train and you’ll see a huge difference in no time.

A lot of people ask me what the best exercise is when tackling weight loss but did you know that you use a higher percentage of your daily calories when performing non-exercise activities like walking, doing some basic house work or gardening than you would in the gym.

So when training my clients I try and target more strength based exercises compared to cardio workouts.

Although aerobic exercise is more beneficial for weight loss than resistance training, if you are limited for time in the gym I think we could all agree its a lot easier to go for a walk outside and spend 30 minutes or more focusing on lifting weights in the gym.

So instead of doing 100’s of burpees in the gym why not just lift some weights, get stronger and try to hit our step goal for the day all while being in a calorie deficit?

Me and Chloe have been working together for a couple of years now and her biggest challenge was to understand and accept that food is not the enemy but instead a massive part in achieving our goals in the fitness industry.

Due to weight being a big issue for chloe we decided to cut out weekly weigh-ins and decided to use progress photos instead which as you can see from above there has been a lot of positive progress.

I couldn’t be any prouder of the work she has put in and as we can see today that has definitely paid off.

Remember our exercises goals do not always have to be to lose weight. With the right education and understanding we can all help ourselves increase our progress.

Everyone around the world will have their own helpful tips on how they have lost weight and yet when others try the same method it doesn’t work for them.

There are many ways people try to lose weight and yet seem to see little benefits over all.

A lot of people try to cut out certain types of foods to help in their weight loss journey when realistically we can eat and drink what ever we want as long as we are in a calorie deficit.

In short if you burn 2,000 calories a day and you consume 2,000 calories a day you will maintain your weight.

If you burn 2,000 calories a day but only consume 1,800 calories a day then your body will need find the extra 200 calories to help keep the body moving.

Finally if you burn 2,000 calories a day and consume 2,200 your body will use all 2,000 bits of energy consumed and store the remaining 200 calories for another time the body needs energy.

So let’s just eat and drink what we like within moderation try and get active and just live a happy life.
