Martial Arts training shows you what you are capable of. Not on your best day, but when things get difficult. When someone is challenging you, when your energy is low and when you have to stay composed under pressure.

For teenagers, that kind of pressure isn’t rare, it is constant. Academic demands, social expectations and constant comparison against others. The difference is having the tools to deal with it.

Through training in Martial Arts, teenagers learn how to stay focused, manage emotions and push through discomfort. The result is greater confidence, stronger resilience and a healthier response to stress and adversity.

The kids program at SBG is about much more than martial arts. It is about giving your child the tools to handle pressure, stand up to challenges and grow into someone who feels capable in any situation.

Through the power of Martial Arts, they develop confidence, discipline, focus and mental strength in a supportive environment where they’re encouraged every step of the way.

YOU AREN'T TOO SLOW, YOU JUST NEED TO ARRIVE EARLIER

Speed without information is just moving faster. However, information is only useful and accurate when you understand the situation.

When you understand the position, range or exchange occuring in front of you, you don't try to read everything, only the things that matter.

You recognise the shoulder twitch before the strike, the weight drop before the shot or the breathing change before the escape.

When you understand the mechanics of the situation, you know what matters. When you know what matters, you detect change earlier. When you detect change earlier, timing improves without overexertion.

"Fast" is often just awareness.

Do not wait for performance to matter to experience chaos. Build and include controlled discomfort into your training.
Start a round slightly fatigued, begin in a positional deficit, give your partner the initiative or limit your best strengths.

Fatigue tests your ego, bad positions test your composure and constraints test your creativity.

Micro-adversity teaches emotional control and allows you to think clearly when conditions are not ideal. And in chaos, conditions are rarely ideal.

The 2026 theme for International Women's Day is . When we give our time, energy and support to others, everyone benefits.

This is the foundation of what we do at SBG NORTH TYNESIDE. Learning Martial arts occurs best when people work together as opposed to against each other. You help your partners grow and they help you do the same. The culture here is about lifting each other up and it is something we believe more women and girls should have access to.

So this Saturday 7th March at 11:00am, we are giving a free morning of coaching to the women and girls of our community. No experience or equipment is needed, just come along and enjoy the morning with us.

We will explore the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu together, a powerful yet accessible way to learn practical self-defence skills, improve your fitness and grow your personal self confidence that extends far beyond the mat.
