Being lean isn't just about aesthetics.

A healthy body fat percentage can improve strength-to-weight ratio, make calisthenics skills easier, improve running performance, reduce stress on your joints and support long-term health.

For most men, somewhere around 10-20% body fat is considered a healthy range, with many people finding they feel and perform their best around 12-18%.

The goal shouldn't be to get as lean as possible. The goal should be to find a level that allows you to perform well, recover properly and enjoy life while staying healthy.

What's your biggest reason for wanting to get leaner?

One thing I like to use with calisthenics skills is combinations like this 👇

Rather than finishing a set as soon as the hardest variation breaks down, you can move into easier progressions and continue accumulating quality work.

More time under tension, more volume and more skill-specific strength.

A simple way to get more from your training and build a stronger skills as well as keeping things more interesting 💪

Want to improve your calisthenics skills?

Stop thinking it's all about doing more reps of the skill itself. Strength is often the missing piece.

When used in the right way, weighted exercises can target weak links, improve movement-specific strength, and make advanced skills more achievable.

They can help build the strength, stability, and force production needed for movements like the front lever, back lever, planche, and muscle-up.

The goal isn't to replace calisthenics with weights, it's to use them as a tool to get stronger and progress faster.

Train the skill, build the strength, get better results.

Do you include weights in your calisthenics training? 👇

May Re-cap ⏪️

Family, fitness and food.

Summer is on the way, the longer days are here and I'm feeling more positive, motivated and energised.

Running is getting back on track, training is going well, and there's finally more time for getting outdoors and making the most of it 🙌

A month full of good people, good food, fresh air and plenty of movement. Here's to more of the same in June 👌☀️

Trap bar deadlifts are an exercise that is massively slept on 👀

Not only are they a great option for building strength and power with less stress on the lower back, but flipping the bar over to create a deficit adds even more range, leg drive and strength off the floor.

Too many people see it as an “easier” deadlift when in reality it can be a great tool alongside conventional deadlifting to improve overall performance, strength and athleticism.

I regularly switch between the two styles as they both benefit each other and have their own advantages depending on the goal, the athlete and the phase of training 💪

Weekend in the Lake District ⛰️

Had an amazing weekend in Keswick with my wife and in-laws. First time for me in the Lakes and also the first time we’ve left the kids for longer than a night 😅

Lots of walking, lots of food, and I would say lots of alcohol… although these days I can only manage one night on the beer 🍻

Was good to finally spend some proper time together. Life usually feels non-stop and revolves around the kids, work, and everything else in between. Finding the time isn’t always easy, but it’s important ❤️

Making memories, switching off for a few days, and appreciating the simple things with good people. Exactly what we needed.

“Is it right that you haven't put me on a bro split?” 👀

A client asked me this yesterday after I gave them their programme, which had a more varied split throughout the week.

The truth is, there’s no single “best” training split. The best programme is the one that fits your goals, recovery, schedule, experience level, and allows you to progress consistently.

For most people, training muscle groups more frequently throughout the week tends to work better than smashing one body part once every 7 days and then spending half the week sore.

A more varied split can help with:
✅ Better recovery management
✅ Higher training frequency
✅ More opportunities to practice lifts
✅ Improved overall performance
✅ Keeping training more enjoyable and sustainable

Bro splits still have their place, especially for advanced bodybuilders training with very high volume, but for a lot of people they simply aren’t the most practical or effective option.

Personally, this is the way I’ve trained for a long time and what I’ve always gravitated back towards. I enjoy the variety, I recover better, and I feel like I perform far better training this way 💪

Been a bit quiet with posting recently but I’ve got a few things in the pipeline.

For now, here’s some of mine and my clients’ progress from the last month.

Despite a few setbacks on my side, it’s been about staying consistent, adapting where needed, and still making progress in other areas. Which is exactly what I expect from my clients too.

If you’re thinking about getting started, or getting back on track, now’s as good a time as any with summer fast approaching ☀️

Drop me a message and let’s get to work.

Testing 1RM Strict Press

Today was my cardio day, but I couldn’t resist jumping in on this month’s challenge to see where I’m at.

Managed a +5kg PB 😁 which I wasn’t expecting, especially with not being able to lift as heavy during ultra training.

Still chasing that 90kg and pressing over bodyweight… but it’s getting close 👀

If you fancy testing yourself, come give this month’s challenge a go and get your name on the board.

Need help with your technique or building your press? Just drop me a message 👍
