Great weekend away for my birthday. I spent it at snetterton with Bemsee for rnd 2 of the acu team green junior cup.

Friday afternoon I got to go out for two practice sessions with Konrad Breese as my instructor. He showed me around and gave me tips to take into Saturdays qualifying.
It was my first time at snetterton and I was amazed at how fast the track was.

Saturday qualifying i was still learning the track and as I started to get more confident I started to struggle to get the bike to turn and hold a line. I set a time of 2.33 and was content with that as this was my first time riding on a dry track and good whether!!!

Saturday race 1: I started on row 11 in 31st place I made a decent start and steady improved my lap times. I spent alot of time watching and learning from the riders infront and seen where I could improve. I finished in 22nd place and improved my lap times down to a 2.29. This put me on row 7!! And 19th for the start of the next race.

Race 2: I started well again and set about putting into practice what konrad and the other seniors had been helping me figure out.
I rode as fast as I could and lost places to a few senior riders. I came in with a huge smile and was happy with the progress I was making. I asked dad to look at the bike and see if there was anything we could do with the front end.

After some mega advice from Justin white and borrowing a paddock stand from Darren Stolton dad made a change for me to try out on Sunday morning.

Sunday: A brilliant day firstly because it was my 14th birthday, secondly because I got to race my bike again!!
I went out for the practice session to try the changes and the bike felt completely different I had gained alot of confidence in those two laps and felt like I could push on and see what I could do in the races.

Race 1: I started in 24th got a great start and got my head down and improved by a large margin and set my quickest laps of 2.26 putting me in 14th in the jnrs class. I was really happy with that race I felt like that was the first time I had clicked with the bike and it was actually doing what i wanted it to do.

Race 2 was mid afternoon started in 22nd. I got away well and ended up 3 abreast against seniors into turn one. I held my own and managed to break away from them and got into my flow. About mid race my bike started cutting out when I was going around right handers I tried to manage it as best I could and lost my gap to the seniors behind and got pipped to the post in the last 3 corners with my bike spluttering across the line. Despite that I had a fantastic time both on the bike and off it in the paddock.

I'm really looking forward to the next round and hopefully dad can find the bike gremlins!
Thanks to everyone that helps us out it means alot.

Oh and to top it off I won a spot prize too!

Been a while since I did an update and alot has been happening behind the scenes and over the lockdown period!

Since last year I've passed my ACU and will be competing in the Bemsee 300 junior ninja cup.

Added to that I'll be competing in the Freetech Streetstock Endurance and 50cc Racers Uk championship with my team mates Pull the Pin Racing.

This weekend was our first round in the endurance world and to say I loved it is an understatement!! We took a bike that had never been ridden before and between just two of us managed to complete the 4HR race through all types of weather and teething issues with the bike.

A great start to a new season and really looking forward to the smiles, laughs and memories that are to come. 😊

Not the end of the season I wanted, but it is what it is.

Rnd 6 Teeside autodrome.

We left Wednesday lunchtime for the long drive up north for my first time at teeside, Mum and Dad had booked me in for a suprise on the Ohvale UK practice day on the Thursday on the gp-o 160 bike.

Thursday morning came and I was up really early and really looking forward to trying a new bike and seeing how I would get on with the ovhale 160.

The weather was horrible, cold and wet but I wasn't going to let it ruin my fun and once I got out on track and had done a few steady laps to familiarise myself with the new bike I started to see what it and I could do!

The bike was unreal it is very very different from my vmc, alot more responsive and I felt straight away that I was comfortable to push.

After a few sessions on the 160 I got to try the 110 too and again everytime I went out and came back in my smile was from ear to ear.

I even got to chat and have a pic with Peter Hickman and sit on his new 190 Evo bike.

It's fair to say that the ovhale is an incredible bit of kit and I want one!!

Friday was the Michael Laverty day, I tried out different gearing and suspension settings on the vmc with wets on in mixed conditions. I was able to transfer the track knowledge from the day before and find a comfy setting quite quickly.

I was doing great times in the wet but unfortunately as I was closing in on a slower rider he came off as we entered a corner I managed to sit my bike up to avoid him but the rider behind me ran into the back of me and we all ended up in a heap and the session was red flagged.

Saturday was the official Rich Energy British Mini Bikes Championship practice and qualifying day. Dad had managed to patch my bike up enough for me to get out but I was very sore and wasn't at my best. I had a small slip off in one session then as I got into a good zone I came up to the back of another rider he binned it and I followed him this time at pace as soon as we got off the floor we fist pumped each other and laughed.

This was when I realised something wasn't right my left hand was really sore, dad took me to see the medical team and they advised we get it x-rayed. (Ive had it x-rayed and it is broken so I'm now in a cast for the next 6 weeks 🥴)

That was the end of my race weekend and first ever season on a bike, not the ending I wanted as I really wanted to secure 5th in the championship against some super quick lads.

I've finished 6th in my first year and I missed 5 races either due to mum and dad's work or injury. Im super proud and excited about what next season will bring. I'm not sure what classes I'll race in but whatever it is I know it will be fun.

Big thanks to everyone and congrats to all that became champions and got on the podium throughout the season.

See you all in 2021 (hopefully)

Round 5 race report:

Arrived Friday evening and set up shop for the weekend, I missed the last round at 3 sisters and hadn't had much time on the bike since but I was super excited to be racing again and it's the first time I was allowed to race without my orange bib!

Sat morning was interesting the track felt really slippy and I struggled with the confidence to push especially with the change of layout but I tried my hardest. I had a small off in the session before qualifying, but nothing to bad just some new scratches on my bodywork.

Race 1;
I got a really good start and got ahead of 3 other riders into turn 1 and started to chase the top 5 but they had abit too much pace to stay with so I stuck to my lines and finished 7th in class.

Race 2;
I got another really good start and had alot more confidence in this race my lap times dropped by 2 seconds and after making my way past a few riders I improved on race 1 and finished in a strong 6th and not too far off the lead pack!

I'm now 5th in the mini gp 140 championship going into the last round in my first year racing.

In summary I had a great weekend even though it was hard I learnt loads and had some great people in the paddock helping me out with lines, track walks and most of all having a fun time.

To all those that had offs this weekend I hope your all doing ok and hope to see you again soon. 👍

As part of the build up to the VisionTrack Michael Laverty Academy we are catching up with riders every day about tips for young riders, this weeks tips come from none other than British and World superbike champion Neil Hodgson .

The question we asked was -
"Racing is tough at any level, but the higher you get the harder it becomes. You have said in the past that you hated loosing so much it became difficult to cope with at times. Looking back what lessons did you learn that got you through those tough days and what advice would you give to youngsters when its not quite going their way on the day?"

Neil
"Id say if you have had a tough day and it hasn’t gone your way, which happens quite a lot in racing its about understanding why. Why has it not gone to plan? Is it your fault? is it the teams fault? or maybe the bikes fault? But one thing you must be for this to work is be brutally honest with yourself. I have seen and heard so many riders crash or struggle over the years and blame everyone and everything apart from themselves, you will never go forward if you cant be honest with yourself.
Once you have worked out where its gone wrong then you can start and put things in place so that it doesn’t happen again, but again, honesty with yourself is the key.
One thing you cannot do after initially analyzing the cause of the poor result or crash is dwell on it. Work out why, put things in place, and then move on. If you feel worked up or stressed on a Monday or the following week then put that energy into your training, instead of letting it bother you, work hard, push yourself as you cannot change what has just happened but you can effect what will happen in the future. Its not an easy question to answer, as its not a one size fits all remedy, but the key to all of this is being completely honest with yourself, if its your fault- then own it."

BMB Rnd 3 race report:

We arrived on Thursday evening and set up for the night and out first ever experience at whilton mill, what an experience it was!

Friday:

So with it being our first time at whilton and not knowing the track I took the first two sessions to mind map the layout and establish my lines and braking points towards the end of the day I was starting to feel abit more confident and tried a few quick laps and managed to end the day on a 59.2

Saturday:

The weather was really hit and miss and dispite the lack of grip in some of the sessions I continued to push and in free practice I managed to shave another 2 seconds off which gave me a nice little boost going into qualifying.

Qualifying was mental it was very busy on track and trying to get a clean lap was difficult but I tried my best and qualified in 6th in class which considering I've never ridden there and the experience the pack had over me I was extremely proud of.

Sunday:

Race 1

Got a poor start off the line and lost a few places to jsm riders but got into my rhythm and the lap times continued to drop my fastest was a 56.2 the race was then red flagged. I finished in a solid 6th place and buzzing for race 2 as I found that I could push in a few sections of the track.

Race 2

After what seemed like an age of red flags (hope all riders involved are all ok) race two was declared as a 5 lap sprint on the grid so I had to start fast and push if I wanted a result. That's exactly what I did and got a great start giving me a great run into the first few corners keeping much more experienced riders at bay and finished just .2 ahead of the nearest rider finishing in 7th in class!

All in all a good learning curve. I won't be at the next round but looking forward to rnd 5 back at whilton this time without my novice bib to see if I can improve on my times. Just want to say a massive thanks to SB Racing for your continued coaching and advice with setup on and off track, cheers dude 👍

A mixed result this weekend. First time at lydd for rnd 2 in the BMB.

Fridays practice was spent learning the track then testing gearing and discovering that the engine issues we had had round 1 were in fact due it being very underpowered, proven on the Dyno with Minibike Dyno.

So we bought a new engine from Parker racing and fitted it Friday afternoon unfortunately I didn't get to test the new engine due to red flags.

Saturday was timed practice and qualifying, the bike felt much better and my times improved massively I ended up qualifying 6th in my class.

Race day,

In race 1 I didn't get the best start but I chased down the pack and started making progress setting my fastest lap of the weekend, unfortunately me and another rider were taken out on the last corner, the race was red flagged and apart from a sore shoulder and ribs I was able to walk away. Dad and Martin turnt the bike around and sorted all the broken bits, VMC's crash well!!!

After some painkillers and ice I suited up and got ready for race 2, during the race I was in alot of pain but pushed hard and finished 4th in class.

A massive thanks to the medical team for looking after me and to Steven and Martin for helping with the setup, track walks and advice. John for helping with fitting the new engine in rapid time and everyone else that helped out over the weekend.

Well what a weekend,
Rnd 1 of the BMB championship. My first weekend racing and I couldn't be happier!!!

Friday: signed on and collected my starter pack, then went out in free practice. The bike felt good from the start, I set some decent times and felt confident going into qualifying.

Sat: warm up session didn't go too well we discovered a fueling issue.

Qualifying one the bike still wasn't running right but I dug deep and managed to qualify 5th in my class.

Qualifying two: The bike still wasn't playing the game but I improved my time which I was more than happy with!

Sunday:

Race 1: Got off to a good start and had a clean race and managed to finish 4th in class which I couldn't believe!!!

Race 2: Got caught up at the start by an incident but plugged away and stayed focused till the chequered flag I managed to finish 5th in class! So that's me 4th in the mini gp class championship.

A fantastic weekend away with mum and dad cannot wait until round 2 at lydd.

Thanks to all that offered help and advice over the weekend.
