A great day in Derby with Me, Peter and David
An awesome day teaching alongside John Johnson 8th dan! Main themes were power generation, the various ways limbs can be controlled and manipulated, and the use of methods in Tensho. A very enthusiastic group! Thanks everyone!

Last night saw David Madams grade to 1st Dan after many years of hard and consistent training. David demonstrated his proficiency in (among other things) kata, bunkai and kata based sparring. As well as Ohyo kumite and Kihon Kumite.

A great start to the first day
And we are off! Great first days training. Fun folk with a shared passion. Love it!
Inspired by Iain Abernethy (while on his seminars and residentials), last week we practiced the first 3 drills of Choki Motobu. Last night in the dojo we practiced the next 3. Then put all 6 together to practice the first half of a kata specifically put together by Iain Abernethy to help remember these drills. They were greatly enjoyed. Realistic drills that embody the principle of pre-emptive striking, hitting with the weapon closest to the target and blocking/redirecting and striking with the same limb (s opposed to blocking with one limb and striking with the other). We shall be doing more of this.
Last night, we practiced a few things that I brought back from the Iain Abernethy residential. In particular, variations of jab-cross-hook-cross. As kihon, then working it on the pads. Initially static then advancing, retreating and moving off the enemy's changing attack line.
