Kettering Park Avenue 0-5 Northants Knights

The 2nd game of Group A in the David Ferguson trophy sees us come away with another 3 points but a much more convincing performance than the 1st game.

We knew we had to step up our game with tougher opponents and that’s exactly what we did.

Conditions were awful so we knew to play on the floor at all times which suits our style of play anyways.

From minute one we were all over KPA but just couldn’t find the net. First 15 minutes were all us and probably had about 5 or so chances and 20 corners.

The deadlock finally broke then the ball fell kindly to Bradley who’s 1st attempt was blocked but 2nd attempt found the net going underneath the keepers arms, 0-1.

Some minutes later and plenty more possession from the Knights saw Panko score our second, everyone on the team claims it was an own but he was adamant the ball crossed the line before their play kicking in the net also.

We went into the half 2 nil up and felt very comfortable in the game.

All knights again second half, the ball found its self in the air in the box and Bradley out muscled their centre half controlling it and volleying into the net beating the keeper, 0-3.

Bradley once again found himself in the box with plenty of space but unselfishly squared to Aaron to place home bottom right corner, 0-4 and game all sealed up.

A great move in midfield fed the ball to Kyle out wide who put through Bradley, a great first touch put him in one on one and although the finish wasn’t great the ball found its way into the net for his Hat Trick.

Knights eased off a bit and KPA had a few chances but never looked like scoring.

We sit top of Group A and face Sixfields Rangers in the next match and we will be looking to keep the perfect record in this cup going.

Northants Knights Half Season Review:

For our first year in the Nene Nene Sunday League as a new team I would say our season so far as a whole has been positive joint with some frustrations.

We started well with progressing to through to the 2nd round of the Nene Cup but unfortunately met prem giants delapre_united and swiftly came to an exit as expected.

In terms of league results we haven’t done too bad we keep going on these little runs of being unbeaten and then lose a match which shouldn’t in our opinion been lost but that’s football for you.

We are going well in the Northamptonshire FA Sunday Trophy beating 2 opponents from the lower league and face tough opponent in the Round of 16. We have definitely set our eyes on winning this trophy and us a team believe we have a very good chance.

We have been unlucky with some key injuries to both our main strikers with both suffering the same ankle injury putting them out for 7-8 weeks each which was a big blow but we have made due without.

We definitely hope for some silverware this year but would not be disappointed if we went home empty given it’s our first year together.

Excellent month for our CM Fowkes, in and amongst the goals and assists and picking up 2 MOTMs.

Not only has he rescued us to win 3 points but his off ball work is immense and his 100% mentality is superb.

Very much deserved and unanimous decision from the committee

Well done mate

Northampton Knights 2-0 Burton Band

A massive win and a big statement win, we knock Burton Band of their pedestal and break their unbeaten record in the league.

A first half of wasted chances by both teams and some good saves to keep the scoreline at a nil.

It wasn’t for moment of magic from Fowkes a few minutes before the half where an absolute 🚀 from outside the area hit top bins keeper had no chance.

2nd half came and we knew it was gonna be a harder half with playing up hill but the boys dug deep and kept on making chances but just couldn’t find the net. Burton Band never really looked like scoring and had half hearted attempts.

We found our 2nd with some good play on the left hand side finding the ball to creamers feet in the box who squared it to Adam to tap in for 2-0.

Burton Band had one more final push with 15 left to go and peppered our goal but everything that was thrown our way was dealt with by drop in keeper Bradley 😜

Full time whistle went and we are climbing the table with multiple games in hand against everyone 👌🏻

MOTM: - Aaron - absolutely solid 🤯

Northants Knights 2-1 Sable Antelopes

Knights into the next round of the Sunday Trophy after a challenging match against a lower division side.

Big credit to them they came out and battled very well and their results this year does not the show the team we played.

It was Knights that broke the deadlock after a huge kick out of the hands of fill in keeper Bradley, nodded on nicely by creamer to put Kyle through on goal and he lad is on 🔥 at the minute and smashed it in past the keeper.

Not much really happened in the 1st half we challenged the keeper a couple of times but never properly tested him. Sables didn’t have any chances in the first half all credit to the back 4 they were solid.

2nd half came and the whole half I think for both teams were just flat as anything.

They equalised with an absolute 🚀 into the top right corner from outside the box.

A huge 1 on 1 save kept the Knights in it and up stepped our ⭐️ man Kyle to put home again for his 2nd with 5 minutes left to play.

A few scares in the dying minutes from silly fouls but Knights kept their cool and saw the win out.

MOTM: Josh - Absolutely solid defending

Thorplands Club 81 Stags 3-4 Northants Knights

Back to winning ways this week, and what an important win it was for us.

The lads were briefed on how important a win was and how we had to go out and do it and they did exactly that.

Throughout the whole match I believe the game was very even but I think arguably we were just the better team on the day.

TC81 opened the scoring from a mistake at the back and the lad rifled it top bins leaving the keeper with no chance.

We grabbed a goal back pretty quick from a mistake by their defence which left an open goal for fowkes to place in.

We grabbed another shortly after with Ryan’s blistering pace crossing for Kyle to slot home.

An absolute blunder by fill in Keeper Bradley allowed them back into the game at 2-2 and swayed the momentum back towards them and they quickly grabbed another from a headed goal from a corner.

We went into the half 3-2 down.

We equalised with a well worked solo goal from Jospeh.

A VERY soft penalty was then conceded against us and up stepped their player but fortunately for us he hit the woodwork.

A great 1 on 1 save from Bradley kept us in it late in the game.

We grabbed a winner with 5 left to go (bet the ref wish he didn’t add all that extra time on now👀) Josh slotted a beautiful through ball on the floor for Fowkes who took us oppurtunity and won us the game.

Cup action next week where we face Sable Antelopes as we seek to progress further in the Sunday Trophy.

MOTM: Fowkes - 2 in a row for the boy absolute machine.

Northants Knights Player Of The Month >

Septembers award goes to Kyle Bryant

STATS:

4 GAMES - 3 GOALS - 2 ASSISTS - 1 MOTM

A great month for Kyle in and amongst the goals and setting them up, played all 4 games and always makes an impact in every game. Not only does he contribute to the attacking side of it, Kyle also is very hard working off the ball and his give 100% attitude doesn’t go unnoticed 👏🏻

Next up for the Knights🔜

We take on Thorplands Club 81 Stags in only our 3rd league game of the year.

After back to back defeats the boys are looking to bounce back with an important win, a repeat of a pre season fixture where the result ended in a 3-3 draw should shape up to be a decent game.
