That's a wrap for this week's class.
Thank you to everyone who made it to class. Thankfully we had the luxury of AC in most venues but getting to and from class was a great effort with the high temperature.πŸ‘ πŸ₯΅

Missed Monday's classes so looking forward to delivering new routines with you on Monday 1st June, gosh June already πŸ˜€

Have a wonderful week/weekend all. Stay cool and hydrated.

Thank you for all the lovely comments following my last post. I found it quite overwhelming but even more inspired to keep going and enjoy a job I love and get to do with so many wonderful people 😍

A year ago I took the brave decision to leave my job of 27 years and pursue my dream to work in the fitness industry.

By joining the network of Move it or Lose it Instructors I started delivering FABS exercise classes for adults 60+.

As much as I was excited to take this step and focus on a new journey, it was scary leaving behind the comforts of a regular salary to become self-employed doing something so different to my previous role.

There were the little voices saying am I good enough, will people enjoy the classes, will there be an interest?
12 months later I am thrilled to be delivering 2 classes a week at a wonderful Independent retirement village and 6 small classes in the local community.

I have met some amazing people on my journey, I have loved witnessing wonderful friendships grow in the classes, the laughter, the jaw exercises on arrival from chatting, going for a cuppa after a class and little gatherings at Christmas and Easter.

When members share with me how the classes have helped them feel fitter, stronger, connected I feel grateful I took a chance and have helped people feel the benefits of exercising as we age 😍

I feel stronger and fitter myself and certainly do not miss the sore muscles from sitting at a desk all day πŸ’ͺ❀️

I am looking forward to what the next 12 months will bring. I would love to inspire more movers to come along and join us in a class so they can experience for themselves, the importance of exercise as we age. It's never too late and exercise can be fun.

Move it or Lose it classes help you stay active, move more, build strength, improve balance, improve heart health and confidence πŸ’ƒπŸ¦΅πŸ˜…πŸ§ β€οΈπŸ’ͺ

A big thank you to my members, past and present, the wonderful Move it or Lose it team and instructors across the country for your support, you are all amazing πŸ™

Together let us keep moving the best we can to age well and continue doing what we love for longer.

Movement is our secret weapon to staying strong.

🎡 What if music is doing more for your brain than you realise β€” and you could use it to your advantage?
We often think of music as something we enjoy.
But new research suggests it may be doing something much more powerful β€”
πŸ‘‰ changing how the brain functions.
From increasing blood flow…
to strengthening connections between brain cells…
to influencing memory, mood and coordination…
Music activates multiple systems at once.
The interesting part?
πŸ‘‰ How you use music may matter just as much as listening to it.
πŸ‘‡ We break down what the science says β€” and how to use it β€” in our latest Turn Back the Clock: The Age-Defying Edit

I hope all you movers have had a lovely Easter weekend and making the most of this glorious weather ☺️ 🌞

As much as I am enjoying a little break I do miss the classes both physically and mentally. To keep the muscles strong I am keeping active, spent time with the grandchildren, 45 daily sit to stands, 30 seconds leg balance, bopping along to the radio and some lovely brisk walks 🦡 πŸ˜…

I would love to hear what you have been doing?

Classes will resume 13th April with some new routines to workout the brain and body πŸ’ƒπŸ’ͺ 🧠

I hope to see you all there and if like me, you will be ready to work off the odd Easter treat or two 🍫 πŸ₯š 😬

Please share class details with friends and family. Remember to tell them they get a free class and can contact me for further details:

Our Class Members Are Bucking the National Trend

Older adults are the least likely to strength train in the UK.
But thanks to the hundreds of members who responded to our latest survey, we know our Move it or Lose it members are bucking the trend. Here’s what we found:
πŸ’ͺ 97% are doing strength training at least once a week
πŸ’ͺ 47% are doing it twice a week or more
πŸ’ͺ 92% feel physically stronger
πŸ’ͺ 98% believe strength training is helping them stay independent

And this is what strength looks like in real life:
βœ” 70% find getting up from a chair easier
βœ” 43% find climbing stairs easier
βœ” 42% can walk longer distances
βœ” 35% find carrying shopping easier

It’s exactly what Professor Janet Lord describes as one of the most powerful interventions we have to prevent frailty and maintain independence.

Our members aren’t slowing down.
They’re getting stronger.
