Northants Women's and Girls Cricket

After a convincing 8 wkt win against Hunts on the 21st April, the Northants Women are in action again this bank holiday weekend.

On Monday we take on Berkshire at Geddington CC (start time 11am) in the next of our ECB 50 over games.

Also this weekend our regional team the Sunrisers are at the County Ground on Saturday at 10.30, and we wish Jodi Grewcock, Flo Miller and Jo Gardner (all Northants players) the very best of luck 🤞

Yesterday the England U19s avenged their only defeat to Sri Lanka, whilst Josie and Jodi were both rested, the victory means the team won the T20 series 🥳🥳

They now move on to the 50 over leg of their tour, fingers crossed Josie and Jodi perform as well as they have and Josie can lead this talented England team to more success.

Today England played Australia U19s again in the T20 tri-series and pulled off a stunning win in just 13.3 overs.

Australia batted first and scored 122-9 with the Northants pair again causing the Australians problems, this time with the ball, Josie Groves bowled 4 overs taking 2 for just 22 runs and executed a run out, and fellow leg spinner Jodi Grewcock taking 1-18 in her 3 overs.

With the England openers taking 50 off the first 4 overs the game was basically won and the England team cantered to the finish post, without our stars having to contribute with the bat this time.

We look forward to Josie’s team looking for revenge against the hosts Sri Lanka soon.

After a fantastic result against Australia the England U19s were unlucky falling just 6 runs short against Sri Lanka, as all English teams (whatever their ages or genders) have found out, playing Sun continent teams in their home country is never easy.
The team go again tomorrow against Australia, fingers crossed for another great result and performances from Josie and Jodi, good luck ladies go well 🤞

Very proud moment for all concerned at Northants today in Sri Lanka England U19s took on our old rivals Australia in the first of a tri series with the hosts Sri Lanka.
To our delight Josie Groves and Jodi Grewcock two of Northants finest not only represented England, but Josie was Captain and Jodi (making her England debut ) Vice captain.
England made 144 in their 20 overs with the Northants pair adding 90 off just 54 balls, Josie top scored with 57 and Jodi 31.
Australia could only make 111-5 in reply with Josie bowling / overs for just 6 runs and Jodi takjng a wonderful catch.
So a great start for England and our two Northants stars.

Week 2 of the ECB T20 competition saw Northants making the trip up the A1 to Grantham to take on a Lincolnshire team who performed well against Leicestershire the week before.

Northants won the toss and bowled first on a bright blustery day.

Lincolnshire struggled against some good Northants bowling and having raced to 19/1 in only the 3rd over they collapsed to 45 all out in the 16th over.
The wickets were shared around with Bethan Soloman taking 3 for 6, Laura Crofts 2 for 2, Rachel Potter 2 for 9 and a wicket a piece for Patricia Hankins, Beth Ascott and Anje Lague.
I’m reply, Northants cruised to 46 for 1 in 7 overs, Jodi Grewcock 19 not out, 11 for Rachel Potter and 9 not out for Flo Miller.

Game 2 saw Northants bat first for the first time this season, Jodi Grewcock again lead the at with 28 from 23 balls, and Flo Miller 14 from 11 gave Northants a quick start before Lincolnshire fought back and slowed the run rate down before Laura Crofts 32 not out and Patricia Hankins also 32 not out rallied with a 50 run partnership taking Northants to 128 for 3 in their 20 overs.
The Lincolnshire batters were determined to improve on thief first game performance, and they did just that being on course to win with an 82 run partnership for the first wicket, but they could not keep the run chase going finishing on 109 for 2

So two more wins for Northants who are top of Division 5 having won all 4 of their games so far.
Local rivals Leicestershire travel to Geddington on Monday May 2 to provide the counties next challenge. (Games start at 11am.)

Northants began their ECB T20 campaign at Geddington CC yesterday with two matches against Oxfordshire.
On a beautiful Sunny bank holiday Monday in game one, Oxfordshire batted first and struggled to break free eventually reaching 82/9 from there 20 overs. The wickets were shared with 2 wickets a piece for, Patricia Hankins 2/16 Josie Groves 2/7 Bethan 2/17 and Rachael Potter 2/21.
In response Northants cruised to win the game in 11.2 overs with a fantastic innings of 49 not out off just 39 balls by Jodi Grewcock.

Game 2, Oxfordshire again batted first and played with more intent and reached 98/3 from their 20 overs, a wicket a piece for Anje Lague, Laura Crofts and Josie Groves.
Northants made slightly harder work of chasing the total this time, passing the Oxfordshire total in the 18th over for the loss of 5 wickets with Bethan Soloman leading the way with 34.

Our hosts (Geddington CC) donated a bottle of Champagne for a Northants performance of the day, and for her dominating innings in the first game this went to Jodi Grewcock, so well done to Jodi 👏👏🍾

A huge thank you to everyone who came to watch and support the team, and especially to Geddington CC who hosted the game and made everyone feel at home. We look forward to returning on 2nd May when the County take on local rivals Leicestershire.

Next week sees the team travel to Grantham to take on Lincolnshire and hopefully continue their winning ways

We have two games against Oxfordshire starting at 11am then at 3pm.
Fingers crossed the weather is set fare so if you would like to pop along and see the team play or you want somewhere to go for a drink and some fresh air, you would be more than welcome.
