💜 You're supporting someone living with dementia... but who is supporting you?

Following the success of our last two fully booked courses, I'm delighted to announce that bookings are now open for the next Building & Sustaining Resilience When Supporting Someone Living with Dementia course, starting Tuesday 30th September.

This is not a traditional dementia education course.

Yes, you'll gain specialist, evidence-based knowledge from a dementia specialist nurse with over 20 years' experience. But more importantly, you'll have the opportunity to connect with others who truly understand what it's like to support someone living with dementia.

Together we'll explore:
💜 Understanding dementia and why behaviours change
💜 Communication that strengthens relationships
💜 Managing the emotional highs and lows of supporting someone you love
💜 Coping with grief, uncertainty and change
💜 Looking after your own wellbeing without guilt
💜 Building the confidence and resilience to face the future

Many people tell me that one of the most valuable parts of the course is realising they are not alone.

What a special evening at The Hilary and Galen Weston Rare Dementia Support Centre.

We were honoured to welcome families from the Cure MAPT FTD community for their annual family gathering ahead of the . Bringing together families affected by a mutation in the MAPT gene, which causes familial frontotemporal dementia (fFTD), the evening was a chance to connect and share experiences in the comfort of our centre. It was wonderful to see our new home filled with conversation, connection and hope- exactly what it was designed for.

A particular highlight was welcoming the Jordan and Cian, whose powerful advocacy is helping to raise awareness of familial frontotemporal dementia and support families around the world. We were delighted that our Head of Support Services, Nikki Zimmermann, had the opportunity to meet them and capture the moment together.

A huge thank you to everyone at for the incredible work they do and hosting such a wonderful event at our new home.

Caregiving often begins with love. A ride to an appointment.
A reminder to take medication.
A quick check-in call. But over time, those small acts can become a full-time responsibility, often while balancing work, family, and personal health. The result? Caregiver burnout. Many caregivers don’t recognize the warning signs until they’re already overwhelmed: chronic stress, disrupted sleep, anxiety, isolation, and declining physical health. The reality is simple: caregivers need care, too. Taking time to rest, connect with others, seek support, or simply step away for a moment isn’t a luxury.
