"Pirc Defense"

The Pirc Defense is a hypermodern chess opening for Black against 1.e4 that begins with 1...d6 and 2...Nf6 (or 1...d6 and 2...g6), featuring a quick kingside fianchetto to undermine White's center.

The exam ceremony was held today at HSPTA HQ. All 17 students were successfully promoted - receiving their new belts and certificates respective to their performance. (AIS) Sohaib delivered the event professionally - in charge of the session's photography and drilling in some training for the class. A new initiative has been introduced to HSPTA. Sparring will officially begin in January 2027.

17 students were upgraded in today's exam. Examination panel consisted of: Dr. GM NJ Gurung (P), Master Pradeep (CI), and (AIS) Sohaib. Congratulations to Brissa to being promoted to Spokesperson (SP) and taking photography for the event. Congratulations to Hanna also to being promoted to Advisor (A). Exam results and SOTM winner will be announced next class.

The Evans Gambit is an aggressive 19th-century chess opening variation of the Italian Game (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. b4). White sacrifices a pawn to lure Black's bishop away, gaining critical tempo to seize the center, control open diagonals, and launch a devastating kingside attack.

"2 YEARS & COUNTING..."

Today marked the 2 year anniversary for HSPTA - Northolt branch at Alec Reed Academy, been established since May 2024. The event was celebrated with treats & snacks, with a joyful atmosphere. The training session was run by (CI) Master Pradeep and assisted by (AIS) Sohaib. SOTM for April 2026 winner went to Sara Pun for incredible hard work. HSPTA upgrading will be held on 30th of May.
