After last weeks win at home to Alnmouth we hosted Gosforth Bohemians Development on a windy (seems like we only play in strong winds at the minute!) afternoon on the grass.
From kickoff Gossy made the most of said wind, ball over the top, latched onto by the forward in the first minute, his shot saved by Briggs but the ball fell to the midfielder lurking on the edge of the box, his shot looked to take a deflection off the Wembley turf and fooled the keeper as it nestled in the back of the net! 0-1 first minute.
And that first minute set up a mad 20 minute spell of 5 goals! The equaliser was next when Alex Poole closed down and finished to make it 1-1 then the third goal from what looked like a defenders clearance but some how it looped up and bounced into the top corner for a bizarre own goal. 2-1.
We extended our lead when Jordan Haig set up Alex Poole for his 2nd of the game as we went 3-1 up. And the fifth goal was well finished from outside the area when Lee Smith’s square ball to Jordan Haig was controlled and he unleashed 20 yarder to give the keeper no chance. 4-1.
Chances for both teams to score before half time and even in the ridiculous wind it could of been another 5 goals, but some how it stayed at 4-1 till 2 mins before half time when a mistake in the box was punished when Kris Langley fouled and the penalty was dispatched to give Gossy a 2nd. 4-2 half time.
The Second half we had the advantage of what wind was left as it now decided to blow cross field! And with chance after chance now, Gossy were finding it hard to get out there own half. A throw in down in the corner found Adam Douglass, he controlled turned and his shot seemed to hit the keeper. Hit the post, hit the keeper again and rebound into the back of the net. Blyth celebrated, Gossy went to take the restart and the ref gave a goal kick???? Still 4-2
Callum Hunter then scored from outside the box when Ethan Shipley played him in to extend our lead to 5-2 and with an hour gone on the clock, a mistake from the keeper allowed Alex Poole to chase down the loose ball and get his 3rd goal of the game with the simplest of tap ins in an empty net. 6-2.
There was still time on the clock for more goals Spencer, Douglass & Wakenshaw all guilty of some how missing the target. But despite this we had all the control of the game and saw it out with a comfortable win in the end.
