Great Melton Blaze U11s faced Rocklands U11. Last time we played, Rocklands won by 7 runs, so hopefully, it will be another tight match. Great Melton batted first and started nicely with James and Lucas. Zack and Oliver added some quick runs, looking to dominate the Rocklands bowlers. Oliver, Harry, and Charlie batted nicely, with Charlie ending on 10.

Oliver (1) and Lucas (3) opened the bowling, and James (1) and Harry (2) got among the wickets, with Oliver and Charlie ending the innings.

11 wickets were taken in total, and the lads made massive improvements on previous matches. On to the next!

A close match tonight for Great Melton U13 Storm, finishing with 92/4 off 16 overs. Strong batting performances came from L. Tree (18) and E. O'Sullivan (16) to set a competitive target.
In reply, Great Ellingham
managed to chase it down, finishing on 96/5 to win by 2 wickets in a tight contest. Great Melton's bowlers put up a fantastic fight, thanks to Great Ellinghams short notice stand ins Amber and Oona

A huge thank you to Great Ellingham for a great game and for loaning us two players to make the game possible

Great Melton Phoenix took on league leaders Brooke U11s. Brooke won the toss and decided to field. The opening partnership of Mansur and Joel looked confident, with healthy strike rates, which GMCC had been missing out on. They both retired 30 not out, bringing Henry and Alfie to the crease. They continued with pressure singles aplenty, Henry being dismissed for 9. Arthur was quick to fall to a mix-up with calling. Alfie was 15 not out and Frankie 2 not out. Great Melton finished 113 for 2 from 16 overs.

Brooke came out to bat, but Great Melton were extremely strong from the start. Alfie (1) and Joel bowled a tight line, with the first 6 overs going for only 22 runs. The pressure was on as Arthur (1) and Noah continued. Finlay (3) came on to bowl, taking 3 wickets in 5 balls, which was an immense effort and ended the match. With run-outs and stumpings, this was the most complete performance of the season.

POTM
Joel 30 not out
Finlay 3 - 2

A tough build-up to this week's fixture saw last-minute call-offs leave the U13 Storm with only half a team. Despite the constant threat of rain, there was a real determination across the club to get the game on rather than call it off. Thanks to a fantastic effort, we were able to bring in five boys from the Fire and Blaze squads at short notice to ensure the fixture went ahead. A big thank you to those boys for stepping in, and a special mention to the boys' manager for working behind the scenes at the eleventh hour to help source the extra players—your efforts were hugely appreciated.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, the Storm put on a solid display of team cricket, managing to bat deep and give most of the side a chance at the crease.

William led from the front, playing a captain’s knock with a quick-fire 27 off 22 balls, including 5 boundaries.
Charlie (16) and Tom (12) provided good, steady support at the top order to set a strong foundation.
Late cameos from Persephone (5^*) and Indie (7^*) pushed our total to a competitive 94/5 off our 16 overs.

Defending 94 was always going to be a challenge, especially with a rotated attack ensuring every single player got a bowl—always a tricky thing to balance, but great for development.
However, GMCC were absolutely amazing in the field, turning what could have been a comfortable chase into a proper thriller. The team kept the energy incredibly high, fielding brilliantly and asking serious questions of the Hethersett batters.
With wickets falling at crucial times, we managed to rattle the opposition and take a tight game right into the final over (15.3), causing plenty of late nerves before Hethersett scrambled across the line to win by 5 wickets.
Wickets were shared well across a great team display:
Lexy: 1/10 (2 overs)
Indie: 1/11 (2 overs)
William: 1/15 (2 overs)
It’s always a difficult balancing act ensuring everyone gets a fair turn with bat and ball while keeping the match competitive, but the team managed it beautifully. To push a strong side that close under the circumstances is a testament to the brilliant team spirit and superb effort in the field.

Not much movement at the top with only 1.5 games completed this week - Suttons Specials replacing Henry's Hurricanes in 5th position.

Naming no names... three teams somehow managed to score negative points this week... thats got to be a first!...you know who you are 😁

Fingers crossed for more cricket this weekend!
