A periodic update on here to say that to say we are still around and considering options…

There is local political interest in our plight, however efforts to partner up with other youth organisations in the area don’t seem to be getting anywhere fast. Which perhaps brings us back to the question of whether there are enthusiastic and willing people locally to help us get up, running and thriving again?

Our ethos is that a thriving youth club should be packed out with good quality activities and a fun experience which helps children and young people grow in confidence and reach their potential. It should effectively meet local needs, it should never be a dwindling, half-hearted childminding service. It should be where both members and volunteers should feel welcome, be happy and safe from bullying. (We would only now operate from an appropriately run venue where this ethos can be met)

We’ve spoken to a lot of parents, former members and potential new ones who agree with this ethos and that that this is what the area really needs, question is how to make it happen? These things take time and effort to bring about and whilst we aren’t in a position to do this alone, it may be possible with more hands making lighter work of it.

If that sounds like something you or anyone you know could be interested in making happen, either helping to run sessions, the behind the scenes admin or fundraising, drop us a message and we could look to meet up and discuss things further.

A quick note to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 🎉

Hope remains that we will be back in some form or another next year. It is however a difficult task. For that to happen our team need to be able to collaborate with others with the capacity to help handle the behind the scenes stuff and funding to ensure that a fun, safe, good quality & life enhancing youth club experience can be enjoyed all round.

Local ‘politics’ being what it is though, for now the children & young people of this corner of the city frustratingly continue to miss out. That can change though and we’ve been talking to good people who can help enable that. We shall see what the new year brings 😉

In the meantime, thanks for all your support & stay tuned!

Fighting back in the name of Dwayne - BBC News 15/11/2016

This is an interesting article highlighting some inspirational work going on within a challenging part of London. It demonstrates the importance and benefit to an area of good quality activities delivered with a passion to engage young people to help them reach their potential and leading towards good integrated citizenship and out of harms’ way.

This is very much our aspiration. Whilst our situation may be different to that of Brixton there is similarly a real need for a thriving hub that young people & volunteers can feel welcome, safe, involved, valued, inspired and have fun. It’s frustrating for the community when there are a combination of barriers to overcome before that ambition can truly be realised. But we are working on it and there are those out there willing to help address those issues. Stay tuned.

Not wishing to create panic, but this rare type of incident has happened in our neighbourhood. Please read the details, share locally & if you can help the police with their inquiries, do so. Also urge your own children to be careful out there.

Always humbled by the people who get in touch wanting to volunteer with us or send their kids to take part in activities. Our work towards re-opening continues. Discussions in the community concur about the obstacles & challenges that voluntary groups face locally, but what will be will be, we welcome all positive support towards what we aim to do, if you can help, drop us a line :)
