I'm thinking that Lockdown 3 is the perfect opportunity to explore this bible of Haybox Cookery, first published in 1939. Some surprisingly contemporary recipes (lentil curry, for example), some not so appealing to today's tastes (Boiled Sheep's Head springs to mind...), some downright puzzling (Brazil Stew, turns out not to be about nuts!) Amazing what you can pick up at car boot sales!

Right, it's three and a bit weeks to Guide camp and I'm looking for new recipes for the haybox. Porridge is standard, of course, as is the chicken casserole.... BUT I want to try out some new things this year, maybe with a bit of a spicey twist.... is risotto risky? paella possible? baked potatoes a bonkers idea? (Actually, I was partially successful with those a couple of years ago...must revisit!) Suggestions welcome....

Mrs B is off on a Rainbow sleepover on Saturday - introducing a new generation to the yumminess that is haybox porridge! What toppings do 5-7 year olds like, I wonder? Blueberries? Golden syrup? Chocolate spread?
All of the above probably! Looking forward to spending time with Acle Rainbows at lovely Limpenhoe.
If YOU fancy trying the best porridge in the world contact me to find out how to buy your own haybox.
