I ran two half marathons in two weeks! The motivation behind this was my quest to beat 36-year-old Me’s time - my personal best. It wasn’t to be, even after two attempts but I actually feel pretty great 😊 Because 47-year-old Me is an entirely different person, whose body and mind have had many more experiences, good and bad, and 47-year-old Me is stronger for that (and, arguably, much cooler 😁😬). So I’m celebrating how awesome it is to be able to do this sort of thing, and not compare myself to what or who I used to be. It’s been an interesting lesson and I feel privileged to be able to learn it.

I lose count of how many times a week I tell people not to be scared of cortisol! It’s only a bad thing if you don’t manage it well and we really don’t want to be sacrificing our overall health because of it.

So if you have no medical reason to avoid raising your heart rate safely, go for it!

I know - alcohol is the enemy of menopause. But let’s face it, a lot of us are going to be indulging ourselves anyway over the next few days. It’ll probably mess with your sleep, whatever you do, but stopping a few hours before bed will still help, as will making sure you drink lots of water generally throughout the day and evening.

I’m not a nutritionist but I know a lot about eating for a happier menopause and this dish ticks a LOT of boxes. I’m lucky enough to be able to make and eat my lunch at home every day, but this would absolutely work as a packed lunch too.

The basics are lentils and feta, but there are a few hidden gems too. Ready-cooked lentils in a pouch are a game changer when you want to make something quickly and they’re packed with protein! I’ve added various salad ingredients including tomatoes (which have GABA, to help manage anxiety) and raw chopped sprouts (cruciferous veg are amazing for oestrogen metabolism) and a dressing made with hummus (chickpeas are phytoestrogens), kimchi and miso (probiotics for healthy gut for, well, everything). DM me for the dressing recipe if you fancy it.

We are all the same in that our perimenopause is the beginning of a rise of osteoporosis risk. But we are all different in that our lives already lived will be shaping just how ‘at risk’ we are.

This free questionnaire is from the Royal Osteoporosis Society and is a great place to start with making sure you give yourself the best chance to have healthy bones for years to come 🦴

When I came up with the idea of Breakfast Club, I was really only thinking about helping women who are time-poor get the exercise they need to optimise heart health and fitness in perimenopause. But it has become so much more! We really do work better together, when we have the support of other women who understand us.

Three days a week we meet online for a 15-min cardio session at 7am. This is the perfect amount of time to get real benefit without it eating into your morning routine. In a few weeks, the women attending were feeling the difference; feeling fitter, more energetic and sleeping well. And doing it together made it so much easier!
