Christmas lights switch on event

The Christmas lights switch on last November, proved to be another huge success. In excess of 400 residents attended and Santa and the Round Table were kept very busy, handing out presents to over 150 children. The grotto, which was installed by the Scouts, was beautifully decorated inside, once again by Stephen Reddish. The dance performance put on by children from the AJ School of dance, was one of my highlights of the evening. Thank you to all those who attended, and in particular to my fellow Parish Councillors and staff for organising the event, alongside the Village Hall Management Committee. There was great music inside and outside, (by Peter from Johno Productions}, which was particularly enjoyed by the young children, especially when the artificial snow machines were operating. Thank you to the Vicar for the blessing and to Santa for switching the lights on. The bar and the mulled wine were very popular as were the hot drinks, including Hot Chocolate, served by the WI. I hope the additional food outlets were appreciated this year. The raffle income helped to offset some of the costs due to the fantastic prizes of hampers which were filled with donations from local businesses. These included Ardagh Metal Packaging, Ravenshead Reds FC, Rose’s Pantry, Kelvin’s Fish Bar, Platinum Hair, Ravenshead Beauty, Ravenshead Post Office, Julia Betts Solicitors, Ravenshead Interiors, Ravenshead FC, Nisa– Ravenshead, Watson Knipe, Tilly Pots.
We thank you all.

Grit bins

During the recent snowy weather, it was good to see residents using the grit in the bins sparingly and not for personal use. The Parish Council handyman topped up the blue bins, which are owned by the council, in anticipation of the poor weather. Comments have been made on social media about gritting in the precinct. This is, of course, private land and the responsibility for it lies with the agents for the landlord.
If residents do have any comments about possible placements of extra grit bins, please contact the Parish Council directly rather than through Facebook etc.
