🎓 | We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the University of Nottingham Class of 2026 celebrating at David Ross Sports Village and congratulate everyone on their fantastic achievements 👏

This includes graduating sport scholar - Leicester Tigers and England Rugby star Emeka Ilione! Emeka has graduated from the university's Medical School with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) and Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) after balancing six demanding years of study alongside his professional rugby career.

Reflecting on the achievement, Emeka said "After six years of medical school, I’m incredibly grateful to have reached this milestone. Balancing the demands of studying medicine alongside professional rugby has been testing at times, and there have been more than a few setbacks along the way. Looking back, overcoming those challenges is something I’m especially proud of."

Commonwealth Games 🥈 | University of Nottingham alumni James Hazell is now a Commonwealth medallist after winning silver as a key part of the England 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball team 🏀🔥

A British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) champion as part of the , James has added a magnificent 🥈 medal on the international stage to his collection with England winning all of their matches before a narrow defeat in the final. Congratulations to James and his team mates on this superb achievement 👏

Through our partnerships with British Wheelchair Basketball, an Official Training Partner on our world-class campus, and GF Tomlinson, we're helping drive sector-leading innovation in para and inclusive sport and creating pathways for athletes to achieve success at the highest level.

Commonwealth Games 🥈🥈 | Congratulations to University of Nottingham student-athlete Isabella Brown and University of Nottingham Alumni Sarah Davies-Smale on winning superb weightlifting silver medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games! 👏

Greenaway sport scholar Isabella Brown delivered a personal best and games record of 132kg in the Clean & Jerk to mark a momentous achievement in her career and win a fantastic medal on her games debut! 💥

The University of Nottingham MSc International Business graduate added to her already impressive list of career achievements by registering a score of 217 in the Women's 63kg competition to take to yet another international podium 🔥

We were also delighted to see University of NottinghamUniversity of Nottingham club coach Chris Murray take home a bronze medal in the Men's 79kg competition 👏

🏆 | The University of Nottingham has been recognised on the national stage by the UK's governing body for University sport, after winning the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the 2026 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Awards!

The award celebrates a programme that continues to remove barriers to participation and ensure disabled students have the opportunity to enjoy sport and physical activity in a welcoming, supportive environment.

💬 Director of Sport Dan Tilley reflected by saying; "I'm incredibly proud of our drive to innovate and improve our services to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all our students. I'd also like to thank the partners who work with us, especially the University's Disability Support Services as well as GF Tomlinsons, who are generously supporting our para and inclusive sport offer."

Commonwealth Games 🏆 | The University of Nottingham is proud to see that a number of students, alumni and University associates have been selected to represent their countries at the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Taking place from July 23 to August 2, the games will see approximately 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories compete across 10 sports, and amongst those will be current students Isabella Brown and Zach Moyo.

Also competing will be a host of University of Nottingham Alumni with Sophie Unwin, Sarah Davies-Smale, Michael Gill, Mitch Sparrow, James Hazell and Christopher Russ all representing their nations, as well as former student Dan May. We are pleased that a number of Nottingham associates will be involved, including former staff member Emily Campbell.

We would like to congratulate all of our athletes on their selections and wish everyone connected to the the very best of luck at these games! 🤞

🎓 | University of Nottingham summer graduations begin at our David Ross Sports Village this week (22 - 31 July), and we look forward to celebrating the incredible achievements of the and class of 2026! 🥂

🏟ℹ David Ross Sports Village will still be open to centre users during the graduation period, but will be much busier than usual. We advise leaving additional time for journeys, as well as using public transport where possible as parking will also be limited.
