Eastwood & Kimberley FC 1️⃣ - 6️⃣ Belper United Development

It was an afternoon to forget for Eastwood & Kimberley FC as they suffered a heavy 1–6 defeat to Belper United Development at The Dale Club.
There was a debut for Liam Mann, while an expected squad of 16 was reduced to just 13 following a number of late withdrawals. Far from ideal preparation, but E&K started brightly and looked to take the game to the visitors.
The hosts had an early opportunity to open the scoring, with two efforts blocked before a third clipped the crossbar and went over.
Instead, it was Belper who took the lead.
A free-kick was whipped towards the far post, with Mann going down under the challenge, but no free-kick was awarded. The ball eventually fell kindly in the box and Belper bundled it home. 0–1.
The visitors doubled their advantage soon afterwards. A diagonal ball from the Belper centre-back wasn't dealt with, allowing the left winger to take a touch, cut inside and then back out before finding the net. 0–2.
E&K were then left frustrated again as Brooklyn Woolley got free of his marker and looked to be through on goal, only to be fouled from behind. The referee awarded a free-kick but no further punishment, much to the frustration of those around The Dale.
The resulting free-kick from Corey-Lee Waters struck the crossbar before being cleared. One of those days it was appearing to be.
Belper then struck the post late in the half, but E&K survived to reach the interval two goals behind.
HALF TIME: Eastwood & Kimberley FC 0–2 Belper United Development
As the players emerged from the changing room, those watching from the sidelines could sense that something wasn't quite right.
Players trudged back onto the pitch and looked short of energy.
Unfortunately, what followed proved that feeling to be correct.
Within minutes of the restart, Belper made it 0–3. A cross found the frontman with far too much ease and he reacted quickest to slot home.
It soon became 0–4. Another delivery into the box wasn't dealt with and Belper's midfielder was somehow allowed to produce a bicycle kick from around eight yards, finding the net between two E&K defenders.
E&K looked shell-shocked and matters continued to deteriorate.
Another cross wasn't dealt with and the visitors made it 0–5, with the Belper winger calmly slotting home.
Then came six. And yes — another cross.
This time the frontman nodded the ball back across goal and into the net unchallenged. 0–6.
Defensively, E&K were soft to say the least, with the visitors repeatedly finding space and exploiting the same weaknesses.
You'd be forgiven for thinking things couldn't get any worse.
In true Mick McCarthy style..."Oh, it can!"...And it did.
Lewis Johnson received his marching orders after picking up two yellow cards for dissent, leaving E&K with ten men.
Injuries then took their toll and the hosts were eventually reduced to just nine players.
Despite the player deficit, there was at least a consolation for E&K.
Dale Fairfield picked up the ball just inside the box and struck a firm drive into the net to give the home side something to cheer. 1–6.
The final whistle eventually brought an end to a thoroughly difficult afternoon.

There isn't much dressing up a result like this.
The first half contained some encouraging moments, but the second-half collapse exposed plenty that needs addressing. The repeated failure to deal with deliveries into the box ultimately proved costly, while the lack of energy after the interval made a difficult task even harder.
The important thing now is how the group responds. There is plenty of football still to be played, and this result needs to become a lesson rather than something that defines the season.
POTM 🏆- Dale Fairfield - Got his first goal for us which will no doubt get him going now and was a positive for us today.
Gaffers Thoughts 💭- First of all no excuses, the better team won and deserved it. Big lesson learned also for myself. Last seasons worries seemed to creep back in, when for the first two games this season we have been so organised and hard to beat without the ball. Today showed we arent where I want us to be and have to move on quickly. We train well on Wednesday and look for a positive reaction next week.
