Happy birthday to Matthew Ravenscroft who joined the club as an enthusiastic 8 year old and is now an enthusiastic 21 year old!

His dedication and contribution to the success of the club over these years has been outstanding.

Club member John Downs enjoyed a full schedule of training this week including last night's free extra session at Nottingham University.

Finding himself with time on his hands this morning guess what he did?

Yes, he jumped in the car, pointed it in the direction of Bath University and trained on the Karate Union of Great Britain's black & brown belt course!

He is pictured with Sensei Frank Brennan 8th dan after a session he described as "challenging, invigorating, educational and rewarding"!

Last night's free session was an opportunity for members to train in the fantastic air conditioned dojo at Nottingham University!

It was the second session in a series of two sponsored by club member Teika Bellamy as part of her recent birthday celebrations!

Club members were in action today at the KUGB Shotokan Cup hosted in Nottingham for the first time in its long history.

The event showcased the rich talent within the organisation and there were sterling performances from all of our competitors in both disciplines of kata and kumite.

John Downs's performance in the veteran's kata secured 3rd place on the rostrum and topped off another great day.

CONGRATULATIONS SENSEI BILLY HIGGINS BEM 🥋

We are delighted that Sensei Billy Higgins, 8th Dan, has been named in this year's King's Birthday Honours.
He will receive a British Empire Medal for his services to Karate and to the community of Wigan, which is so thoroughly deserved.

Sensei Higgins had this to say about this amazing recognition:
' I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all students and instructors - past and present - who have been part of my journey over the last 50 years. This includes instructors from across the KUGB which I am proud to be a member of and every organisation across the wider karate community that I have crossed paths with. Your dedication, guidance, and support have shaped my path, and without your contribution I would not be where I am today.'
