I’m seeing a lot of hardcore training programmes being posted around social media at the moment and its no coincidence that’s it’s a new year and a time when gym attendance is at an all time peak with everyone being extra motivated to make changes to their lifestyle.
What happens when hardcore training programmes meet enthusiasm and lack of experience? Injury, frustration and quicker than you signed up to the gym you’ve stopped going. Trust me on this, I’ve been there.
Here’s a Tip – Stop training like a possessed heavy metal drummer on the gym floor but more like focused concert pianist in other words: Have focus, structure and above all take things steady when you first embark on improving your fitness. Get to know your body, learn how to move correctly first, seek advice, increase flexibility and range of motion around joints, learn to stabilise and then you can go beast mode.
In the world of strength and conditioning we call this beginning phase the ‘acclimatisation phase’ this is a phase that precedes the real hard core training and allows your body to be able to handle more output further on down the line. There will come a time when you will have to train hardcore but when you first start, it’s not the right time. The routine of training is more important rather the intensity of training at this early stage. Employ this strategy for more long-term success
