Human Rights Day is observed by the international community every year on the 10th of December. This year is the 75th anniversary of the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the aftermath following World War II. Rebirth often follows decimation. The Declaration is proclaimed as a “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations”, and it sets out a broad range of fundamental rights and freedoms to which all of us are entitled. However, the declaration is not a binding document. The theme this year is ‘Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All’.

The winter holiday is nearly in sight! I imagine we’re all getting excited about the
time home and various festivities (as well as all the food). But for many of us, January
exams will be looming so perhaps now is a good time to start thinking about your
studying and revision style.
Although many of you probably have a well-established technique for revising by
now, however some still don’t have a clue (including me!) what works best for them.
What has worked previously may not work for your current style of course or
content. Mixing it up can be fun to try something new, and you never know, you may
find something that works better for you than anything else has before.
I have found 5 abstract and possibly weird revision techniques that everyone should
have a go at since it might provide some more entertainment and possibly prevent
burnout from happening too quickly.

Jude and Kai!
Jude is a fourth year physics and math student, and Kai a third year vet, both new to kayaking (but not to clubbing!).
They both handle the club socials, organising nights out, fancy formals and running drinking games on trips. They also had some nasty dirty pints, so if you’re running for social sec, you have a tall order for yours!
If you’re considering running for committee and want to know more about our roles, feel free to message us.
Don’t forget, our AGM is in early April before we break up for easter!

Next is me, Alastair!
I’m a second year mechanical engineer (the best kind!) who’s just gotten into kayaking and is looking forward to swimming over some harder features soon!
I primarily run the social media, putting out posts for upcoming trips and promoting the club. I also take minutes in committee meetings and sort out tickets for said trips.
If you’re thinking of running for committee and have any questions about our roles, feel free to message us about them!
Last but not least…

Next is Ross!
Ross is a PhD Chemistry student who’s no stranger to getting out on the water. Despite his many years of experience kayaking, Ross still swam in an eddy on lakes this weekend, and enjoyed the bo**ie that followed!
Ross handles the planning and leading of pool sessions, organisation of coaching and river groups on trips. He also helps out with events such as NSR or BUCS if it’s needed.
If you’re looking at running for committee and want to know more, feel free to message any of us about our roles!
Until next time…
