📢 BBC Coverage of the DCT Boxing Academy
We appreciate the BBC raising awareness about the issues we’re facing with the Hyson Green Youth Club (HGYC) Management Committee. However, we want to set the record straight:
❌ We did NOT "move" from the premises by choice.
☑️ We were unlawfully evicted. The locks were changed without notice, leaving us unable to access the gym, train, or retrieve our property.

🗣 Statement from HGYC Chair, Maxine Davis
She stated: "This is an internal matter which we're dealing with internally and our aim is to ensure a fair and reasonable outcome for all."
Here’s the truth:
☑️ Maxine has not been in direct contact with us since the locks were changed.
☑️ She has offered no resolution and has not visited the boxing club in years.
☑️ She is rarely present at the Youth Club itself.

❓ So, What Have We Done?
We are taking this seriously and have already:
✅ Sent numerous formal complaints and served a Letter Before Action (LBA) to the HGYC Management Committee.
✅ Submitted a formal complaint to Nottingham City Council.
✅ Reported the committee to the Charity Commission for negligent management and mishandling of charity funds.
✅ Raised awareness via local press and media.
✅ Sought legal advice from solicitors.

Imagine a community run Boxing club🥊 that:
✅️ Helps to keep kids off the streets and keep them occupied.
✅️ Helps to reintegrate ex-offenders using boxing.
✅️ Runs an Anti-Knife campaign - 'We Don't Carry Knives, we wear Gloves'
✅️ Has run holiday kids camps and school intervention and mentoring sessions.
Now, imagine this same community run Boxing Club that has had to operate with:
⛔️ Severe roof leaks that have destroyed over £3000 worth of equipment and damaged the flooring, causing mould and damp.
⛔️ No central heating system or hot water in the changing rooms.
⛔️ Broken windows are in the changing room, so when it rains, they become flooded and a trip hazard.
⛔️ Not having a working toilet for our users
⛔️ Cracked and damp walls filled with mould.
Yet the Hyson Green Youth Club's management committee still demands rent despite failing to rectify all the issues above after many broken promises.
The Chairperson of the Hyson Green Youth Club (Maxine Davis) claims that the club has no money for these repairs (that will cost £19K) despite their financial records showing they have received over £321k in Government Grants alone over the last 5 years.
Funnily enough, Maxine Davis has used the boxing club to win multiple funding applications but the club has not benefited from any of this. You can see her in this video done by BBC Nottingham - https://lnkd.in/eY6Jz4_R
The work of the DCT Boxing Academy has been used by the management committee chair (Maxine Davis) to showcase the Hyson Green Youth Club and secure additional funding, yet the DCT Boxing Academy has benefited nothing from this.
The Chairperson Maxine Davis has now illegally, without any permission from the courts or formal warning, changed the locks of the gym, not allowing us access to the facilities to even retrieve our property.
The Hyson Green Youth Club is not being utilised for the Youth and is being managed by an incompetent management committee.
We have now decided that enough is enough in addition to the formal complaints have been made to the Nottingham City Council and ones we will be making to the charity Commission, we are now getting the local press involved to raise more awareness of this situation in the hope that the council or any relevant people can assist in investigating the negligence and illegal practices of the Hyson Green Youth Club.

Kids boxing class is cancelled tonight
unlucky to my fighter Derrick Osaze last night on what was building up to be a great fight, but unfortunately he got caught by a good punch that he did not see that ended the fight, derrick was doing well up in that point but like we all say 1 punch can change a fight. Derrick is ok he's abit pi**ed of as anyone would be because he trains so hard and lives a professional life in and out the gym, derrick will be back 💪🏿🥊❤️

I want to say a massive welldone to our champ🏆 Ekow "The Engine" Essuman on winning the WBO internationl belt on the weekend 🥊 what a fight you showed grit determination and heart and nothing was stopping you that night to get up from that right hand to come back and did what you did you showed the heart of a true lion 🦁, Massive welldone to Owen Cooper for playing is part in an amazing fight who also showed grit heart and determination but the experience of Ekow Essuman came out on top. Welldone to both guys 🥊
