All Hail the weekly missive from War & Peace games club,
This week two armies lined up and were pushed together to fight a nice relaxed battle in a game of Pike and Shotte.
Some Marauders and Nameless (using some novel rules currently in development) met on a 2 foot Deadzone board. The Marauders were disappointed as calamari wasn’t back on the menu as the Nameless won as the battlefield was obscured due to lots of expressed ink.
A game of Root saw the Rats victorious over the Cats and the Birds.
The evening finished off with some Fantasy Flux.

Hello War & Peace,

This week we returned to the mountains for a game of root involving the crows, the birds, the mice of the woodland alliance and the lizards. The crows had control of the tower for the start of the game which meant they scored points every round and soon had conspiracies scattered all over the mountain. In the end the crows won having gained too much of a lead before the mice, birds and lizards started to act against them. The mice came in a strong second place.

More men with spiky sticks fought another engagement in the English Civil war with buildings being garrisoned and temporarily held while the cavalry decided to run away.
The evening was rounded off with some more dragons flying around in a game of Tsuro.

More fun and games next week, who knows where the games will take us?….

Greetings once again from War & Peace games club,
This week there was another battle of the English Civil war using the ‘To Kill a King’ Supplement for Pike and Shotte from Warlord Games. The battle lines were set up and the battle unfolded during the course of the evening.
More war and battle at the other end of the hall with a game of Cthulhu Wars, it has been a while since we had this out so we played on the Earth Map using familiar factions. Opener of the Way, Crawling Chaos, Windwalker and The Ancients factions faced off to take control of the earth in the aftermath of the great old ones awakening and causing the apocalypse. Crawling Chaos took the lead early on, but was beaten back by Opener who, in turn was devastated by a phoenix like Crawling Chaos. Ulitmately it was The Ancients who won the day, mainly by staying out of trouble with Windwalker in second place.
We had enough time at the end of the evening for a few games of Tsuro as we led our dragons around the skies, with varying degrees of success.
More next week

Hail War & Peace,
Another week has passed and here is some more of our goings on at the club this week.
The English Civil War started this week on our Historical tables in a game of Pike and Shotte, you can see the lovely armies in the photos.
Our DreadBall All Stars playtesting continued with a 5 player game of Battle Royale. The five teams were the Slammers, the Juggernauts, the Jets, the Krakens and finally the Old Guard. With 5 players it took a while to get through the first period, the central scoring zone was shut down by an event and a couple of the more aggressive teams caused a couple of scuffles. Just before the end of the period, Grak, from the Old Guard went on a bit of a rampage injuring all but one of the slammers players (who was already in the locker room) as they had ganged up to surround Harmony (one of the Gemini twins). Grak’s playtest rules grant him extra dice on slams, for each player injured earlier that turn. We discussed if this was too strong, but concluded it was likely a rare occurrence partly due to a series of failed Grit tests and the fact all the Slammers players were standing next to one another. In the end the Juggernauts won with a landslide at the beginning of the second period.
More fun and games next week

Hi War & Peace,

Some more village raiding and the stealing of livestock, with a vulnerable haystack at the centre of the settlement this week in the Victrix Pillage game.

Our DreadBall All Stars playtesting continues with 3 teams (Jets, Slammers and Juggernauts) moving on to Battle Royale, the multiplayer arena. At the end of the first period the Juggernauts were pulling ahead, but with a late surge the Jet came back to win the game. More firsts as the Old Guard (the team generated by the Kickstarter request for a team of original DreadBall MVPs) hit the pitch with some test rules. The Old Guard faced off against the Krakens in an Anarchy Arena match. The Old Guard won, but the Kraken’s coach’s feedback was that they didn’t seem over powered. Some slight tweaks and they will join the other teams for a Battle Royale match next week.

Just a quick update this week from War and Peace,

More pillaging, the boat is in the water honest, there is just a bit of algal bloom so the land and the water look alike! The pillagers got away with a pig and some chickens for their troubles, sounds like they are getting ready for a bbq.

Just a single game of DreadBall All Stars Anarchy Arena this week saw the Krakens go up against the Juggernauts. At the end of the first period the Juggernauts were up 4 points, but the Krakens had got the score to 1 point in their favour with the Juggernauts still with an activation to go, but they were let down by a failed Keep roll to gather up the ball in preparation for a potential 3 point strike. With the failed roll causing a Turnover the game was won by the Krakens.

We finished the evening discussing possibilities for rules for the Old Guard team promised in the Kickstarter.

More fun and games (and yes DreadBall All Stars playtesting) next week.

Hello War & Peacers
More Pillage this week with pretty little homesteads being defended and raided.
More DreadBall All Stars playtesting, the Slammers against the Ryders and the Jets against the Juggernauts in the Anarchy Arena Championship.
The Jugggernauts and the Ryders won their games, but it did highlight that it is possible to have combinations of Game modes and other event cards that in the current iteration mean if a team starts winning it is very difficult to claw things back. Fear not! We have some suggestions for slight alterations to a couple of the events, the scoring and game modes that we think will still reward coaches for playing well, but stop unassailable leads.
One example was the ball after launch ending up in Omega, of the Ryders hands, and the first event being the game mode that awards a point at the end of each of the opposing players activations. It took a couple of activations to reach Omega before the Slammers could even try to get the ball out of Omega’s hands, which meant the Ryders started with a 2 point advantage and possession of the ball on their first activation.
The joys of playtesting! 😊

Welcome War & Peace to the final of the DreadBall All Stars Urban Rumble Championship!! (Play test)

The Slammers and the Juggernauts are in the Urban Rumble final! The Juggernauts have the advantage with their predisposition to slamming, can the sneaky Slammers make good use of their legitimised(in this mode at least) signature fouling play. After the first period the Juggernauts had a one point advantage which they maintained to win the match.

The Pillage crew were playing a scenario this week, St Brice’s Day Massacre, with one band attempting to set fire to the church to smoke out those taking refuge. The raiders were surprised by one particularly effective man of the cloth who gave a warrior a good clobbering.

Finally we had a time to start play testing the Anarchy arena for DreadBall All Stars. The game starts off slowly with the pace increasing as more game modes and ways to score are added to each period. The Ryders played in both games, they lost in the first against the Jets with the score swinging back and forth, and won the second against the Juggernauts (fresh from their championship win) due to two rapid strikes at the beginning of the first period.

More Anarchy Arena and other games next week

Harken, here are the tales of War & Peace this week,

More Pillage raids took place, homes were sacked, peasants attacked and livestock stolen in a couple of games as the fate of the settlements was determined by the dice.

The Dreadball All Stars Urban Rumble semi finals took place. In the first semi final we saw the Slammers (in 4th place) winning against the Ryders (1st place) with a landslide in an extra period after the score switched back and forth in the standard two periods. In the second game the Juggernauts (2nd) and the Jets (3rd) faced off with a win to the Juggernauts when the dust had settled. All the teams got an Urban Rumble Legacy card to add to their decks for future games.

The evening finished with some Pirate Fluxx

Next week we will have the Urban Rumble Final between the Slammers and the Juggernauts and also start play testing Anarchy Arena.

Welcome to British Summer Time War & Peace,
The evenings are getting lighter and we are still merrily playing tabletop games.

This week we had a change on the historical front, going back in time with Plunder, a rule set from Victrix appearing on the table. Homesteads were raided and defended and axes were raised in anger and defence

More DreadBall All Stars play testing this week as we tried out 2 new teams, the Sabrecats and the Painkillers in the first game which saw the game swinging back and forth a lot with injuries and goals being scored, but ending in a 1 point victory to the Sabrecats despite Lucky Logan starting the game prone thanks to the first event card of the game Live Wires. In the second game the Sabrecats played again against the Jets this time, and this time the Sabrecats succeeded in getting a landslide. Lucky Logan lived up to his name in this game surviving multiple slams and a Shiv attempt from Miguel Van Dien. These games highlighted the difference in slamming technique in All Stars, it is now not necessarily about the number of dice thrown at the slam, but now about targeting prone players with slams that are likely to Triumph
