NI Feva Team Shine with a Silver at the Feva World Championships in Aix-les-Bains, France

The NI Feva Team enjoyed a fantastic week of sailing at the Feva World Championships in Aix-les-Bains, France, where 168 boats from 16 nations competed. After two days of qualifying, the fleet was split into Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets setting the stage for some exciting racing.

The weather proved to be a real test of skill and patience.
• Day 1: Good winds filled the lake, but unfortunately, only one race was completed due to technical difficulties. The Ridout sisters started strong, taking a brilliant 3rd place.
• Day 2: Four races were sailed in shifty but good wind, testing everyone’s ability to adapt.
• Day 3: Sailors waited on the water for four hours before being sent ashore to wait there; racing was eventually cancelled at 6pm.
• Day 4: Four races were squeezed in despite shifty, light conditions, with wind shifts of up to 30 degrees keeping crews on their toes.
• Day 5: Three Gold Fleet races were attempted, but all were abandoned, including one where the breeze swung an incredible 180 degrees on the first leg.

Despite the challenges, the week was full of learning—particularly in light-air tactics—and the NI team built friendships with sailors from across the globe. The organisers created a fantastic atmosphere, with a beautiful race venue and a lively sailors’ village that brought everyone together.

Results:
At the prize-giving, the Austrian pairing were crowned overall World Champions. New Zealand claimed the Female World Champion title, with Emily and Annabel Ridout claiming Silver and 10th overall, a brilliant achievement on the world stage!
Ross & Martha Nolan Gold Fleet: 32nd Overall
Matthew & Peter Ridout Gold fleet: 46th overall,
Jessica & Sally, Silver Fleet, 80th overall,
Ellie & Naimh, Silver Fleet, 89th overall.

🏆UK Feva Junior National Champions🏆
Big congratulations to Ben and Laia on becoming the Junior champions at the UK RS Feva Nationals in Dalgety Bay. Ben McCaldin is from Lough Erne Sailing Club and is on the NI sailing team for Toppers. He has an old feva of his own but this was his first time racing a feva.

Ben crewed for his cousin Laia. They were the only 'all junior' boat to make the gold fleet and went on to prove that they fully deserved their spot coming 21st overall. . They sailed some awesome races despite having lots of breakages and capsizes and were rightly awarded the Endeavour prize for having the best attitude after so many challenges.
A fabulous achievement for their first time racing together. Well done guys! 👍🏆✨

🏆UK FEVA NATIONALS - super event for all NI sailors with the whole NI team sailing in Gold fleet 🏆PRIZES TOO! 2nd UK Females for Emily and Annabel also winning 6th overall and 3rd Family prize🌟🌟Great event in Dalgety bay- super windy! Second day cancelled but managed to get in 7 gold fleet races. Quite a few black flags on last day - lots of tide and wind. High teens base line for wind- Gusting 30mph throughout the event. Kite surfers would have been happy here! Great to have Hammy Baker from RYANI and his rib there to support the NI team. Big thanks to him. Everyone has learnt loads!!
Dalgety Bay Sailing Club Exec Committee and the whole membership were fully engaged and I don’t think one of them saw their beds before midnight throughout the event. - food always on the go which was a big bonus for hungry teenagers, lots of entertainment and so very welcoming- a great place to return to. A big thanks to UK Feva Class Association and DBSC. If you missed this event there’s always next year- (same dates) and check out all the Irish feva traveller dates posted below: Blessington next…
