The World Cup is a time of excitement for many, but for some, it can be a time of fear.
While football does not cause domestic abuse, heightened emotions and increased drinking can be a catalyst. Research shows domestic abuse incidents increase by 26% when England win or draw, and by 38% when they lose. There is never an excuse for abuse.

Have your sayโฆ.
๐ด Have your say on the proposed Oakham to Rutland Water cycling route! ๐ณ
We are inviting residents and visitors to share their views on proposals for a new cycling facility and improvements along Stamford Road in Oakham. The scheme aims to create a safe, direct active travel connection between the town centre and Rutland Water.
Proposals include:
โญ segregated cycling facilities
โญ improved crossings, including toucan crossings and side road crossings
โญ improved signage, lighting and surfacing
โญ connections to existing cycling infrastructure, including the Burley Park Way shared-use route
The route would begin near Oakham Library before continuing along Catmos Street and Stamford Road. By improving these links, we can support healthier lifestyles, encourage sustainable tourism and reduce reliance on private cars.
๐ฃ๏ธ Have your say before the survey closes on Tuesday 7 July 2026
