I've recently seen alot of children on bikes and scooters riding around Roche and in the skate park without wearing helmets!
This scares me after our recent experience in June! My son who's a confident rider had one little slip up while on his scooter at a skate park and although he had his helmet with him he failed to put it on for this little ramp he just did!
This lead to him having 3 skull fractures and arterial bleed needing to be blue lighted to Bristol hospital where he went in for surgery! Hes had months off school and is still going through the long healing process but luckily on the mend!
I wouldn't wish this to happen to any other child or parent so I'm just telling our story to maybe help convince children that ok it might not be cool to wear one but it can most definitely save a life!
Lesson well learnt! Let's continue to teach others!

Skateboard left at the skate park lunchtime today - Venom board with purple writing on the undersurface.

Update 7pm. Skate park bowl has now been swept clean of glass, so happy skating, scooting, rollerin, biking!
Warning glass in skate park bowl. Thanks to those who've picked up the bigger pieces (smashed Corona bottles) but it still needs a thorough sweep when the surface is dry.

Apparently the bowl has glass in it from broken beer bottles. Anybody local with a brush able to help out? I’m in Tyneside - or I’d nip down.

I’m sorry to have to say this but the 2nd lockdown restrictions include the closure of skate parks. Please understand it’s not just about reducing contact it’s also because this is a high risk sport, accidents easily happen and we all have to reduce the need for hospital treatment, so NHS staff and beds can prioritise covid patients.
